Well, he has a guaranteed contract.
DL would be a bad GM if he weren't looking into ways to upgrade every position. Utah once had a recent all-star at PG in Rickey Green. Averaged 14/9/3 in 1982-83 and was extremely fast. Couple of years later the Jazz drafted some guy named John Stockton and Green was traded shortly thereafter. Same scenario could play out with ANY of the Jazz players. Personally, I think it most likely to happen to Burke (short, slow, not a good shooter) or Kanter (defensive nightmare).

Because it is the way Jazzland works, we covet a player, we build him up to be the next great thing and when the player shows any flaws, Jazz fans start including them in trades. Then if said player has a bad summer league half the Trey lovers jumped off the bandwagon, when he struggled shooting they say he sucks and we wasted our draft pick.. somewhere they forget that he was the 9th pick but finished 3rd in ROY balloting and made our team noticeably better. Yes his shooting needs work and so does his defense (you mean he isn't perfect) but the guy started as a rookie (he should have been a junior in college).. So I call this the "grass is always greener" virus that affects many Jazz fans. I would rather the Jazz find a SF first and then another shooter in this draft. For now, I will hold off my final judgment on Trey at least to the end of his rookie contract. I think he will get better especially once he settles into being the main PG.

Besides scoring the 5 millionth point in NBA history, Green was also a Jazzman for eight years. That isn't the same as replacing Burk after one. If a blue chip pg prospect was there at 5, then that would be one thing, but there isn't.
 
Trouble is the Jazz do not need a PF or PG a much as they do a SF or true C. However, the bpa at the 5 pick appears to e a PF or a PG... Means we are getting a redundant player, or we need to make a trade.
 
Stands to reason that the #5 pick in a fairly strong draft would be considerably better than the #9 in one of the weakest drafts ever. If that #5 pick is a PG, Burke is either the backup or they can trade him. But again, if whoever they get this year at 5 isn't quite a bit better than Trey, it means they effed up the draft.

When did Burke become too slow? I've seen him get by guys like George Hill, Ricky Rubio, Victor Oladipo and Pat Beverly all guys that are suppose to be really good defender. Not to mention he blew by Kemba Walker for a game winning lay-up and Kemba is one of the quicker PG's in the NBA.
 
I was never a big fan of Burke. He came in as a lot better talent that what we had, but that is not saying much. I always thought he was a bit slow laterally and undersized. I would not have traded up to get him. I think he will get better, but I don't think he plays smart. If I could trade him to get Exum, I'd take the gamble. I don't think Burke is the future. He also isn't a good finisher and he isn't very explosive.

Look at comparable style players in the league. What is Burke's ceiling? I see him somewhere between Augustin and Ty Lawson, but leaning towards Augustin. The simple fact is he is not an efficent scorer. I believe his TS% is near the bottom for PGs.

Trey has never been the biggest guy or the most explosive. What has made him so successful his whole career is out working everybody. This is what gives me comfort that Trey will be one of the best PG's in his prime. He's a good shooter he didn't just forget how to shoot overnight. He started the season with a broken finger on the most important finger on his shooting hand and struggled with consistency the rest of the season. Trey is the type of player that will work tirelessly on his shot all summer and he'll watch film with Stockton to try to correct flaws his game. I expect the kind of improvement he made from his freshman season to his sophomore @ Michigan. I expect Burke to flirt with the 90/50/40 plateau in his prime. Just my opinion.

Is this what jazzfanz do now? Try and convince themselves we have untouchables/franchise players/superstars when we don't to make them feel better about our situation?
 
Maybe I stated this a little too strong.

I think the Jazz are happy with Trey and aren't looking for a replacement. But I could see them putting him in a trade for Jabari or something. And I would be down with that.
