Actually no, I said Hayward's season was an outlier. I'm completely in favor of re-signing him based on his previous years. In fact, in his ROOKIE year, he had the best 3-PT shooting percentage AFTER the all-star break, so not all rookies struggle for the entire season.

He needs to go back to being a shooter. I also like the fact he's 6'8" and can play SG. That creates mismatches that a decent coach should be able to exploit.

I think this is one of the things (other than his inconsistency) that totally frustrates me about Hayward. Yeah, he's 6'8" and SHOULD be utilizing his size advantage over almost every other SG in the league, but he never does. He plays "small", if that makes sense. I've said countless times that Hayward needs to develop some sort of post up game, but the fact is, he has none and I doubt he even bothers working on adding that to his game. A new coach will definitely improve his game with a better offense and game plan, however, I don't think a coach can "force" Hayward to use his size to the teams advantage if he doesn't have the skillset to do so.

Sorry, but the truth is he wasn't all that great last season. He put up the same PER as Raymond Felton, Avery Bradley, and Beno Udrih. He had a weeks-long stretch in which he didn't shoot a single free throw. Of course the odds are good that he'll get better. Or he might not. And he is staying undersized and ain't getting any bigger.

The PG position is not set on this team. If the Jazz think they can get someone in here who is significantly better, they should do it.

Play has to be called.
Corbin was always about throwing it in to Big Al. Then last season it was "drive and dish" for Hayward. Hayward doesn't necessarily have to always post up to exploit his size. He exploits it every time he shoots a 3. Opposing guards can't block it. For whatever reason, Hayward was misused last year. It was evident after the first 20 games he wasn't LeBron.

Burke hits a game winner against Orlando at that is evidence of his "killer instinct?" Hayward has a game winner against Sacramento, a game saving block against Wall. More recently? How about the OKC game he took over in the 4th quarter: 37/11/7 and a steal to cap it off...just because. How could anyone say that Exum is bpa at 5? He is too much a mystery man to say that.

Gordon is bpa over Smart. They have some of the same intangibles and also neither of them can shoot. Gordon is bpa over Smart due to his elite athleticism and size for his position.

BPA is a weak argument to replacing Burke imo, because Gordon is that over both of them.

I am not arguing who is the bpa. I am saying if the Jazz organization decides that exum or smart or whoever it is is the bpa they are going to draft him regardless of his position and our team need. Although you claiming you know for a fact Gordon is BPA over exum and smart is just silly. elite athleticism is a dime a dozen these days. He might be better, I dont know and neither do you.

Didn't read any but the first post of this thread, and to answer the OP: many are happy with Peter, James, or John, but the rest of us are looking for The Basketball Jesus to come and save us all, and are willing to move mountains (or promising young point guards) to find Him.

Do you not think Portland does not regret not taking Michael Jordan in 1984. They did not need a shooting guard they had a young star named Clyde Drexler. Like now in 1984 Jordan was just a young kid with a lot of potential. So was Sam Bowie. Drexler became a 10 time all-star and Hall of Famer. As you know since then, you draft the best player available. If they find Exum or Smart is the bpa that does not mean Burke is gone. Right now Burke is our PG of the future, but you have leave your options open. Maybe you draft Exum then a team like the Fakers want him so bad, you trade him in a trade that the Jazz come out way ahead. Maybe you start with Burke as your starting PG and let the rookie back him up. Maybe you run a two point guard starting line-up. Maybe after a year, you see the rookie is not a bust you see what trade options you get for either one. Maybe you learn Exum is heads and shoulder better and you trade Burke. Just don't limit your options.
