Nonguaranteed Guys

after just one summer league game...

My opinion is based on all of the factors that I've seen from these guys over the past two years. I liked Ian Clark last year, but he's a fringe guy. If he makes the team, great. If not, no big loss. He has to shoot lights out to stick around IMO. Erik Murphy looked slow. They already got Steve Novak to fill his role on the roster, making him expendable. Malcolm Thomas looked good in limited opportunities last year and has kept that level of play through the summer so far. Of all three, he looks like the most ready to play in an NBA game, plus the Jazz have some room to add players of his position. Based on everything I've seen, the Jazz have better value in their two European assets and should look to cash those chips in, I think that both Neto and Tomic would fill key roles and fit in well with the roster as it's currently set up. That's the route I'd go to fill my bench with quality depth.

Thomas had a good game the last game vs. the TWolves. I know it really did not matter but that was the first serious run Ty and the staff gave him. I still hold some hope for Murphy but he has got to perform. I guess my point is that there were a lot of players I saw that looked better than our non-guaranteed guys and I doubt all of these guys will make an NBA roster at the start of the year.

I'm high on Neto! He has remarkable ball-handling skills!

Tomic is way too underrated in this forum....Gobert is still too raw to play consistent minutes....we need Tomic into the rotation!

I'd like to get those 2 over here as well. I think that would make a lot of sense.

I agree that Tomic is underrated. He has amazing court vision and passing ability for a big man. If they Jazz want to improve their passing game, Tomic would be an immediate upgrade.

I say just take the nastiest guys who play with the most energy. These players aren't going to get very much game time. Just need them to put some fire into players like Favors and Hayward.

I don't hate this idea at all. I'd rather put talent in the building, because I think that competition fixes a lot of problems that a team might have. . . but getting high energy, heart and effort guys might be the next best thing. Really miss DeMarre Carroll for this reason specifically.

Surely there are some less talented versions of JYD and Sap playing for someone in Vegas or Orlando.

There always is. And the Jazz will likely also influence a number of them to play in Idaho for a D-League contract as well. Then some of those guys get invites to SL next year. Kind of wish they'd invited Jimmer to Summer League, just to screw with everybody.

Frankly speaking Thomas didn't impress me...he made only easy baskets. Clark didn't show improvements.
I believe there are better players in D-League.

+1.

Thomas didn't look like an nab player to me - as someone might have previously said - a poor man's Jeremy evans!

I have a question. The tall dude from UCSB showed up in the box score vs. the Bucks. I thought he got cut in Salt Lake at least according to the Trib.

They brought him back once Brad Jones was in a real game situation and looked down his bench for a big and saw that Jason Washburn was a potential option. Scared him to death.
