What's new

JV does get fouls calls. He gets a ton of favorable whistle when he goes for offensive rebounds and guys push him. That's where he uses his understanding of positioning and angles to his advantage. He just doesnt have that when the ball is in his hands.

Luka deserves most of the foul calls he gets. I know they are frustrating, but his use of positioning and angles is masterful. It's not like he just gets random calls. He's baiting guys into doing what he wants them to do and then punishes them.
So he’d get those if he didn’t flip and flail like he was shot… pretty amazing a guy with such amazing body control and size hits the deck so easily.

And I guess Vando getting popped in the face isn’t a foul until he learns how to control his body better… my bad.

Flipping and flailing just calls attention to what is happening.

And Vando got an And-1 for driving his elbow directly in Dwight Powell's face, so I really dont get the crying about the reffing. IT was extremely even.

Sir he only missed 1 FT all game. It was mostly the zone IMO. Also we went away from the rotations we were using when Gay/Kessler were out and that ruined our early game flow. Plus we played Sexton way too much instead of using our more diverse bench units.
I don't know man.. Sexton was a very active 19/3/3 and was trying to dig in against Doncic and even got 2 steals and at least one of them was against Luka. I can't blame the loss on him especially when he was typically on the floor with Clarkson and/or Conley. He had a few nice passes to Lauri too.

As far as Lauri is concerned this is the type of game where he needs to step up and demand the ball. He's been great this season but didn't seem as aggressive tonight. He kinda fell back into how he was playing last season with Cleveland where he would stand a bit too much in the corner. Can't blame Garland for not getting him the ball last season either.

Anyway I thought it was a very entertaining game. They will probably have quite a few of these games where we play hard but just don't have that #1 guy to get them over the finish line.

Most of Sexton's good game in the final 3 minutes when the Mavs were fine trading basket for basket if it meant not giving up 3's. Credit to Sexton for that. When he focuses on what he's good at he's a useful player. I just dont want 30 mpg of that play. He's more of a 20 MPG type player.

Stats dont tell the whole story. THT is the defense individual defender on the team.
On the aggregate he is the rotation player that we perform worst with when he is on the court… stats don’t tell the whole story but that is a consistent theme all season… go ahead and ignore it if you’d like… it definitely says something.

There's been some games where we've had huge leads and he's taken some bad shots so it's tanked his advanced stats a bit, but when it comes to winning plays and elite defense he has done a wonderful job.

Meh.

The Mavs were 8/15 on FT's, the Jazz were 12/14. This isn't on the refs.

Dallas's defense is fierce, especially when Luka is on the bench. The Jazz and Suns in last year's playoffs struggled to crack it.
Free throws are not the only way refs influence games. Breaking momentum is just as damaging if not more.

Yes a couple bad shots are driving his poor “advanced stats”… good gawd man. He pops in garbage time buckets as much as anyone. He will make an eye popping play or two so you think he’s amazing, but he will make twice as many ****** plays or just miss shots. It’s like the guy in Rex league that makes two threes in a row but ends up 2/9 and everyone is like “good game shooter”.

The dunk or steal he got is cool and all but he also drove into three guys and turned it over or threw up a terrible layup… the fact is the net effect is overwhelmingly negative at this point… you can choose to be ignorant or you can actually evaluate the facts… your choice.

If i were scouting the jazz my gameplan would be to attack the paint like mad. We have no rim protection over 60 points in the paint given up tonight.

I think teams will start to take advantage of that more and more as the season goes on.
