Game Thread Nov 14, 2023 07:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Trail Blazers (Tournament)

Added to Calendar: 11-14-23

Loved the total team effort. Despite Lauri struggling a bit and our 3 ball not dropping, we looked like we were going to win this game right from the start.

Few pointers:
- We gotta get Kessler back.... and back to form. Lauri wrestling with Ayton wasnt it, and Collins cannot defend true bigs. Dont know if he had a bad shooting day by chance or if the wrestling part hurt his shooting but it was all over the place.
- Despite the night looking rough for Lauri, he still had 21/9. I sometimes wonder how on earth that just happens.
Lauri is used to have his shot a bit off after extended breaks and in his case it is sometimes few nights that does iit. I was wondering in the start of 2nd quarter how can this team afford their best scorer get 0 shots and almost 0 touches through 4 minutes. Then there was a timeout and JC was resting and Lauri started getting more looks. First off he bricked quite few but found his shot for the 4th and sealed the game.

In an interview with Locke, Sexton said he watched film and was told his plowing to the basket wasn't the best move. Said Hardy told him that if he doesn't have the shot, get rid of the ball. Sexton apparently listened.

Doesn't he normally watch film?
They had quite a busy stretch so I think the film analysis was minimal and probably focused on the defense prior to our break before the Blazers game. Every player should watch their own tape though, and analyze their play on both ends.

Sexton does seem like a guy who needs to get verbal feedback, but he also accepts it.

He has looked so much better the last couple games. Despite missing his 3s this game he was very good and I am glad he got rewarded with more minutes. This was one of our better guard games this season. Clarkson with only 1 turnover makes me very happy and Keyonte had a nice game.

The team needs to get him more touches even if he isnt taking shots the ball at least needs to go to his hands, especially with how much gravity he has. Part of that is on him though.

It is half bc of Lauri himself indeed. I feel if someone has it going like JC last night Lauri seems quite ok just gravitating around the arc as long his team is scoring. He should understand that for his team it is vital he is a bit more selfish. BC if he gets cold its never good. For him and team it was nice he found his touch for the 4th bc with JC resting we needed him. But to win better teams we need JC and Lauri both get going from the 1st half.

I definitely agree that big priority at the start of every game should be getting Lauri going. That will make the defense cheat towards him more as well.

I also like Lauri at 5. It gives us a different look. We can raise the tempo and leave the bigs behind. Kessler struggled against jusuf and eubanks so maybe lauri can hold his own. We will see next game

Ochai was so active last night. He was all over the place mucking everything up. Nice to see. Often he is kind of invisible. Not last night.
