What's new

Not going to lie a part of me started to wonder if we should pick up Cody’s third year option. Deadline is Halloween. I wonder if we could move him before then.

I think the Jazz will keep him. Their hope would be to turn him into a Jaden McDaniels or Herb Jones in a year or two. His problem is that his offensive skills aren’t translating and he’s just not going to touch the ball when there are guys like Ace, Brice, Key and Lauri out there. The league as a whole just keeps getting better.

Defensively, he actually looked good last night.

Also, Amen is going to be freaking incredible. He's like Westbrook, but with self-awareness and actual elite defense.
amen is like russ if he were 4 inches taller and he also reminds me of zion in terms of his ability to find the ball near the rim in positions to get easy open dunks and layups and overpower smaller players for easy paint buckets. he's just always hanging around near the paint and he knows what to do with it once he gets it. he also has that zion quality with the ball on the perimeter where you know he's not going to shoot it, he's 100% going to the rim and there isn't much you can do to stop it.

and he has so much energy on defense as well. he's tough.

I really don't understand the purpose of cutting or trading Cody right now. His salary and roster are not preventing us from doing anything.

i've been one of cody's biggest detractors, but i think you pick up his third year. just far too early to give up on him. for me personally, he showed enough in summer league that you hang on for now.

There's just too much other talent on the floor for Cody to touch the ball much on offense in the half court. The team as a whole isn't especially good at moving the ball either. Then when Cody's not touching the ball, he shrinks. I'd like to see the Jazz set him up for some drives off cuts, as long as there isn't a super long rim protector waiting for him.

Otherwise, Cody is usually good in transition. But then the Jazz's team defense is so bad most the time, that they don't often get out in transition. I guess getting Walker back will help that cause.

At some point, the Jazz have to rein in Svi and give some of those touches to Cody and Brice. I was disappointed that Svi started and was featured last night.

Ace looks huge out there. We’ve never had a player his size with his skillset.

I really don’t think he could have played much better. That is an insane thing to say about a just-turned 19 year-old in his first NBA action.
I didn't even realize how low I had set my expectations after Year 1 Burke, Year 1 Exum on a Darth Vader ventilator, Year 1 Henny, Year 1 Cody... I couldn't believe that shots were going in and smart decisions were being made.

Size advantages are most impactful on the defensive side—and they get neutered whenever a player has a bad case of ball-watching disease. Keyonte can get that pretty bad.
Pretty sure WCJ and Keyonte are of eerily similar size. WCJ might actually be bigger.

Keyonte is still younger which is weird.

Without looking at the actual numbers, a recent 10th pick in the draft should actually be making a significant amount of money.
