What's new

Game Thread Oct 11, 2021 07:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Pelicans (Preseason)

Added to Calendar: 10-11-21

Been playing with this zone for awhile now. I hope we keep using it during the RS to keep guys active on defense. They need to unlearn the habits they got from relying on Rudy too much.

The team looked way more active when we want small and switched with Paschall too.
Our zone defense is really embarrassing to watch. Slow rotations, everyone looks confused, wide open looks for the other team. I think personnel is obviously an issue, but I'm going to put the blame on Quin. People not knowing the scheme and not being able to react quick enough because they don't know what they are doing is on the coach in my opinion.

I mean, that is why we are having the pre season. Learning to defend without Rudy is probably the most glaring problem the Jazz have. It appears that is where the emphasis is right now.

I don’t care if it sucks. We need to keep playing it because those zone concepts are needed even when we’re not playing zone. The only way to get better is to keep playing it.

Paschall looks like a better C than Whiteside. He at least sets screens.
He did look good, but on the down side, he can’t rebound worth a ****, 1 rebound last night.
Whiteside really worries me. I think we might end up being better off playing small ball with Gay or Paschall at the 5.
Geez, let him acclimate to the new offense. Give him at least a few weeks.

I agree, but my optimism for getting better is low since I'm afraid it could be a coaching deficiency.

That would be ideal, would it not?
Could be, if the kid continues to develop into what I think he could be. I know a lot of folks want to give up on him after a couple of bad preseason games and maybe you're being coy as well. I mean I don't play like that. Yeah, I think he has more potential than Whiteside at this juncture, I admit it!

Also I will say that the whole idea of Paschall at the 4 on paper looks bad because shooting and spacing, but watching him cut, drive, dish and other stuff looked really good.

No, Doke's hands and moves in the paint are far ahead of what Whiteside was at this point. He also has the benefit of being coached by the people who made Rudy a star. If the Jazz can't unlock him, it can't be done. I would hope that Doke would be clearly better than Whiteside a year or two from now.

Couldn't agree more framer!
