What's new

Game Thread Oct 13, 2025 07:00PM MT: Dallas Mavericks @ Utah Jazz (Preseason)

Added to Calendar: 10-13-25

Let's assume Lauri starts, even if his minutes are limited tonight. Presumably, the good news is that this should take Svi out of the starting lineup.

I just get this nagging feeling that there might be a Walker trade brewing, and that's why he's not playing. I believe he can be extended up until opening day, so maybe a team takes a chance and does a trade/extend in the next couple of days?

There hasn't been a lot of trade noise around Walker. There's been some noise and speculation around Lauri. I suppose if there's a team that wants to extend Walker at a number his camp likes, and the Jazz and he are really far apart, then that might make some sense. One team I could see making a push would be the Warriors, since Horford is 39 and undersized. Plus they're intent on trading Kuminga. Of course, that would reunite Walker with Steve Kerr. Not sure how that works. Maybe Charlotte or Orlando are other relevant teams. If the Jazz send him to Washington, that helps take the Wizards out of the tank race.

The Jazz don't need to force players onto the court. Walker and Isaiah have both missed games before for similar reasons, and the team simply didn't push them. The Jazz have shown this behavior many times during the season, so how much more so in the preseason.

That would be a great reason they didn't extend him if so. Its a really odd time for a trade and I would have thought it would be done before training camp if it was. Its just not a normal transaction window and I am not sure there has been an event that would cause a team to make a move right now.

I thought it was odd that it was announced so early that Kessler would not be signing an extension. I wonder if his agent is talking to other teams right now about what an extension would look like if he was traded. It would make sense that a team trading for Kessler would want to have the contract nailed down before finalizing the trade.

Kings? Pelicans?

Maybe. I just don't know why it wouldn't have already been settled.

If I was guessing on a Walker trade destination it might be Memphis. The injuries and maybe they don't want to wait on Edey to get back or think he may always have some durability questions because of his size. An Edey for Walker with stuff going one way or another would make sense.

Kings maybe because Kings are just so random. Pels I think would have been done earlier. Maybe the Lakers come back to bat now that they have had some time with Ayton and Lebron maybe eyeing the exit.

Fair point.....but the timing is a bit weird with this one.

1) Jazz/Kessler need to "fail" their negotiations
2) Kessler's agent and other team need to successfully agree on a contract
3) Jazz and other team need to agree on trade

Knowing the Jazz, I wouldn't put it past them to try to fake like they're interested in heading into RFA with Kessler. Like maybe it's on the goal line and AA is trying to leverage it out a bit more. In theory, doesn't really hurt the Jazz if it happens later. It does hurt the Kessler destination team because they'd want to have him in camp.

Occam's Razor = He's just injured and that's why he's not playing. But Ellis and the Kings 2026 picks are assets I'd LOVE to have.
