I also agree that if Exum is there, you grab him and run...

Run where? To call Burke and say, sorry we trading you since we got skinny Australian kid who never played with men and can't shoot and he is going to lead us to playoffs in huh... 5-6 years?
This Exum talk is really giving me headaches. I wish I know for sure somebody in top 4 is taking him and than I don't need to worry about this new Darko ending on the Jazz.

Simple answer - Gordon.

Wow... De ja vu!
I got friend who is a die hard NCAA Bball fan and a Laker.
Our conversation about Aaron was like this:

Me "I've heard about Aaron Gordon. Is he any good? Would you get him if he's available at #7 for Lakers?"
Friend: "Shawn Marion in his prime with worse shooting."

Saric has accomplished so much more than Vesely. Bad comparison. Of course a lot of people trying to compare McDermott to Morrison so I guess no surprise. If Saric comitted to coming over for me it is between Vonleh and Saric.

The bolded is key when discussing Saric. There is almost nobody who is an appropriate comparison, because we have so rarely (ever?) seen in Europe young players (Saric having played this past season at 19) dominate like Saric has.

Exum is more comparable to the Vesely's and Darko's of the past whose few accomplishments are/were in all star games and youth tournaments.

So 18 year old can't improve shooting? And prime Shawn Marion was pretty damn good despite not shooting well either. I think Gordon will be better shot blocker and passer than Marion ever was. Might not be as good rebounder or scorer.
By the way not that I care what your friend says as I have no clue what his basketball credentials are but I would like to see what his description of Exum would be. Prime S.Livingston?

It would be a bad comparison indeed if, well, if it was a comparison.

First, he's just a basketball fan. Loves watching talented young players play. He was impressed with Dante's game. Actually Exum was the only player he really wanted LA to pick. With Lakers getting number 7 he was frustrated that Exum is completely out of the equation

What can i say now... Its hilarious!!
He exactly says: "Imagine Shawn Livingston living up to the hype." in Turkish of course :)

I didn't say anything about you giving Livingston as an example.
I've just asked him to give me an nba player comparison. And he wrote this.

Indeed. I would still prefer better passing and shot blocking but worse shooting Marion than Livingston living up to his potential.

Some good options at number 5, but I don't think any of them can be a number one option on offense, which is what we really need. If we can't move up and draft Wiggins, I'd try to trade down and draft Gordon. Good defender, can do a little bit of everything. Since we're not getting a number one option, we might at least get a player who will improve our horrible defense. And if we get a decent coach, who realizes this team is young and should run all game long, Gordon will be able to put up some decent numbers offensively. Smart is intriguing since he has some potential offensively (he might end up being a chucker on the other hand) and he can play some defense (plus he's intense, something we lack as well). Don't know much about Vonleh. Randle is a question mark for me. He has the talent, but can he be effective against bigger and longer players? I'm not so sure.

So for me, basically, trade down and get Gordon if possible. If not, maybe just pick him at 5. Or gamble on Smart.

Livingston was a pretty good prospect before he went down with injuries. I don't think that's a totally fair comparison.

Yeah, don't have enough Asians on the other hand. Fortunately, you're covering that pretty good.

Saric is a tremendous talent and has a high upside but he might totally turn into a Vesely, performance wise. Sure we may regret not selecting him a few years later from now if he can reach or even come close to his potential but he's probably the riskiest player among the top ten and it would be really wise to go with a much safer pick. It's a freaking 5th pick in a very deep draft after all and we sure wouldn't want to mess it up.

This seems an awful lot like a comparison to me.

Well if Gordon can improve his shooting why can't Exum?

@ESPNNBA: As individual workouts begin, no prospect's stock is rising faster than Noah Vonleh, writes @chadfordinsider.

Sixers take him? Leaving Jabari and exum???

He's a 6'10" guy who can defend, rebound, handle the ball all the way down the floor, finish at the rim and shoot jumpers. Plus, he can't be as dimwitted as Lamar Odom.

Could be a smoke screen too tbh.

Yep, it might. Idk.. something about him that doesn't really convince that he'll do well in the league. In my mind it's screaming Hilton Armstrong. Vohleh will probably be the one that will really struggle the most in his rookie year.

I really like Smart because of his attitude, ability to defend, and insane FT rate as well as off the charts predictive metrics based on his outstanding D.

I would also like Gordon, largely because I once again love his attitude. We need some nasty guys on this team, way too many softies.

Exum would probably be my choice if he's there, but I wouldn't fault taking Smart over him.
