Official Draft Thread

I like Lawal; however, I'd prefer the Jazz just stay put and draft Ed Davis.

I like Lawal's potential. He had been rated pretty high for the past two seasons, but has really dropped. Personally, I'd like the scenario of trading the #9 for the #12 and #25, still getting a good wing like Henry, Babbitt or Honzward and then be able to pick up Lawal to play behind Millsap.

Btw, great avatar and signature.

So you take a wing and a back up PF. What do you propose is done about the center position? Invite Samhan to camp? Or whoever else isn't drafted? Maybe Zoubek?

I'm just saying at #9, Cousins is gone. Monroe is gone. Aldrich is probably gone.
Obviously, the Jazz would need to make some moves, whether that's using the Harpring exception, getting a big in a Boozer sign-and-trade, using AK's expiring, etc.

If the Jazz stay at #9, it's unlikely ANY center could come in and provide immediate help. What pick is going to start. Orton? Whiteside? Seraphin? I guess you can say, Udoh, although he is really a PF, not a "defensive center."

Maybe the Kings pick really is available. The top players expected to be available at #5 are Cousins and Monroe, yet they just traded for Dalembert from Philly. They are all potential centers, so this might be our chance.

Not necessarily. The Kings gave up a couple of decent players in return for Dalembert, an underachiever. I think this was similar to the Harpring deal. Sacramento wanted to get rid of Nocioni's contract so they traded for an expiring (Dalembert) and had to give up a decent young big to get the deal done (Hawes).

I doubt Dalembert will be with the Kings after this season.

In fact, this may have cleared the way for them to draft Cousins. They'll have Dalambert to play major minutes for 1 season and Cousins will have less pressure on him the first year. Then Cousins becomes the starter in 2011. Smart move by the Kings if this is the case.

I really don't see them taking Cousins at this point, it seems like their pretty sold on Greg Monroe.

Any chance Cousins falls to us at 9? The Clippers/Warriors won't take him. So it seems like it will come down to Detroit or Sacramento. If Detroit passes him up for some reason, then it will be time to celebrate.

After working out for them Sacramento may have changed their mind on that. Not so sure the Warriors would not take him. His isnt necessarily a great fit for them, but the FO probably sees the need to change their style of play and it would be pretty shocking if he were still there at Detroit's pick if they do not take him.

I read an article saying that the kings want a veteran SF to play next to Evans. Take it for what its worth.

Also I think Cousins or Monroe will get drafted for sure at this spot.

Warriors will not draft Cousins. Too slow for Nellie Ball. When the warriors fire Don Nelson we will know that they are changing there style of play.

The Pistons will draft Cousins or Monroe. Whoever is available.

We should be talking to the kings to find out what they want in return. If we can't get the kings pick and the kings draft Monroe than we should be calling the Warriors for sure. If Cousins goes to the Kings than stay put at 9 and draft Babbit.

I just read from the Jazz beat writer from the Salt Lake Tribune, Ross Siler's blog from yesterday.

And not that we didn't already suspect this, but here are a couple of snippets from the article:

The Jazz hold Monroe, Davis and Henry in high regard, but the question is what happens if all three are gone before the ninth pick. There’s belief that Babbitt is the best wing scorer in the draft, but Aminu’s versatility would make him tough to pass on.

Judging from their post-workout comments, the Jazz also believe Cole Aldrich and Ekpe Udoh will enjoy solid NBA careers. (I do think Monroe, Davis and Henry all will hear their names called by the Jazz before Babbitt.)

Here's a link to the blog.

Without a shot blocking, athletic big man, the Jazz stand pat. That's the reality. If the Jazz want to win and compete with the lakers who we have to go through to get to the finals, we need a big man.

I think every one here would agree with this. The Question is who is this athletic shot blocking big man that we are going to get with the #9 pick in the draft?
