OFFICIAL GAME THREAD PRE-SEASON VS BLAZERS 8PM MT

I didn't watch him in the Olympics. Thank you for renewing my hope.

I guess it stemmed from all the love Diaw has been getting in the past few weeks for being an intellectual, a man of many interests, and liking coffee. It just reminded me of how Amaechi fancied himself an intellectual and was a big, mostly-bald black European that came to the Jazz in his mid thirties. When Diaw looked slow and out of sorts last night, the comparison really rung home.

I'm hoping I'm wrong. I'll try to continue to believe in Diaw (and Johnson and Hill.) The Jazz have had a habit of bringing in past-their-prime big men. For some reason it really sells to the fan base and we continue to fall for it.
True...

Big Al... Marvin Williams... Richard Jefferson..
Mo Williams... Raja Bell... come to mind.

Not always successful.

I don't think guys like Diaw and Johnson, and probably even Hill, are going to be try harding it out there in the pre-season.

Our main guys played about 20 mins last night. Guys were playing half speed. The game basically became a summer league game starting around the middle of the 3rd quarter. The only thing to take away is how a few key guys looked.

IDK. That was really the Portland offense out there cooking us for open 3's (some were semi-contested but a lot were open).

Diaw may be the best passer on our team. Wait'll he gets used to playing with the other guys; in addition, he is an underrated post player who also can hit the 3.

Dear Diary,

I think lasts nights game came down to a few things.

First, Portland is a really good team and has a ton of talent, there's really no denying that. Barring injuries they will probably have a higher seed then us. Not to mention they seem to be a terrible match up for us, and have smoked us the last few years. First preseason game, at home against a rival they are going to want to impress their fans and send a statement.

Next, we kind of have to face the fact that we probably won't be what we fantasized about post 2015 All-Star break Gobert juggernaut fest. I think we were all hoping we'd get back to that form defensively and add in three vets to aid the offense and we'd be this unstoppable force. Last night clearly shows we still have guys with a lot of holes in there games (ex Hood will still struggle I feel unfortunately, Gobert's offensive game is what it is, Exum may take a few years to be able to be a finisher at the rim), and their were a lot of defensive mistakes, it's going to take a while for them to jell. And even when they jell, we still will have some struggles on offense. Even with the holes on the offense I still believe we will be one of the best defensive teams in the league, maybe even the best but not that epic Great Wall of China **** we saw at the end of the 2015 season. Even with that, I'm pumped and excited to see our guys grow this year and hopefully someday into something special.
