OFFICIAL GAME THREAD PRE-SEASON VS BLAZERS 8PM MT

I'm still convinced that our best lineups might just be:

Hill
Exum
Hayward
Favors
Gobert

Mack
Burks
Hood
Johnson
Lyles

Then throw in Ingles, Neto, and Diaw when needed.

This allows our starters to play tough, tough defense with no holes on that end at all. Spacing on offense would still be okay with G, Ex, and Hill out there, along with 3-Favs. Just give Hayward and Favors all the touches for the first 5 or 6 minutes of the game. Exum, Hayward, and Hill can all play the point essentially, and they can play off each other's strengths and weaknesses.

Then, things get hot and heavy when we sub out Hill and Exum for Burks and Hood, and bring in Lyles for either Favors or Gobert. Go triple wing all over their asses! Mack and Johnson can fill in wherever needed as well.

I really would like Hoods game off of the bench in a Harden role. Plus, that bench would be pretty damn nice offensively, while the starters run through G and Favs and smother the opposition on defense.

So are you saying that Hood makes our starting lineup too weak defensively?

Rewatched the game today.

First Hood had slow feet defensively. Portland is a tough matchup for Hood but looks at our Wings most of them are better defending small forwards. Namely Hayward, Hood, Ingles and Joe Johnson are too slow to pressure shooting guards and have trouble getting over screens. Sometimes Hayward's anticipation helps him out here. If we cut Chris Johnson we are going to miss this part of his game. Hopefully Exum and/or Burks can help us on quick shooting guards.

Gobert is still a problem offensively.

Exum doesn't ever look to score. He needs to figure how to use his body around the hoop.

We looked rusty. I am ready for the next game.

While true, I've felt this way for awhile. Hood and Hayward are too similar of players IMO, and Hood just isn't very good defensively. His length helps him out in some cases, but he's not very quick laterally.

I wouldn't say too weak. He's not Harden or Kanter on the defensive end at all. I just know that inserting Exum at that spot would allow us to play stingy defense on starters, while getting some more bench scoring with Hood as the sixth-man.

That, and Hayward and Favors get a couple more touches in those first and third quarters.

I don't think Hill, Exum, Hayward give us enough scoring though.

I do think we need to give Hood and Johnson time to warm up. They don't look like they're in the groove just yet - but they will be.
