What's new

Official MLB 2015 Thread

He had a great game overall. Throwing Cozart out at 3rd on that botched pickoff attempt by Lester was a thing of beauty. That's not even counting the 2 2 run bombs and the single he ripped in the 10th. Shout out to Jumbo Diaz for throwing what should have been a neck high fastball(with how Pena was setting up out of the crouch) to Soler right down the middle and belt high. That was a beautiful mistake and I want to thank him for making it.

Bryant could be called up as soon as this weekend without having to worry about losing a year of control. Although many believe that it's more likely they will wait until next week's road trip to try to take some of the pressure that a Wrigley Field debut might put on him. Theo and Jed seem to prefer to do this with their top prospects so we'll see.

That ish to Soler was just above his knees, not belt high. Either way, a terrible pitch.

Should be exciting to see Bryant. I don't think he'll be able to beat out Soler for ROTY, but it'll be exciting to see him hit some dingers. Exciting times in Wrigleyville for sure.

Can't decide which team has the worst TV announcers: the Rockies or the D-Backs. Both are beyond horrible.

It's particularly vexing that MLB Extra Innings does not give me the Giants feed whenever they play CO or AZ.

Now that I think about it, Arizona's are worse. They spend 75% of their hot air yakking about food options at the ballpark, and truly believe that Goldshmidt is going to homer every time he takes an AB.

Not a fan of the Rox crew. Especially Drew Goodman. I do like Bob Brenly for the DBacks. His opinions and humor seem to resonate with me. Then again, I listened to him for years when he was a Cubs color man.

The absolute worst I have heard are the TV crews for the Reds and the Marlins for different reasons. Thom Brennaman believes he is god's gift to announcing and he is so arrogant. He consistently bashes players(his own even) often when they don't deserve it. His arrogance about his own knowledge about the game comes through to his viewers on every broadcast and he's quite often wrong. As for the Marlins, I really dislike their crew because they are consistently whiny when something doesn't go the Marlins way or there is a bad call on the field. During the course of the season you are going to be rewarded with what will be bad calls. It happens. There's no need to sit there and whine and cry about it for 10 minutes after the call is made.

Honorable mention goes to the White Sox. Hawk and his Hawkisms make me want to puke. The only time I enjoy listening to a White Sox broadcast is when they are playing the Cubs and the Cubs hit a home run to take the lead. That's immediately followed by about a minute of dead silence. Steve Stone is the only thing keeping that crew from my least favorite in the baseball.

I think Bryant will be the ROY personally. That's not to say it can't be Soler. I just think that Bryant overall has been motivated to excel at every level he has been at and that will continue at the Major Leagues. I disagree with Ugly that Bryant will just be a good and not great player. I see an MVP or two in his future as well as the ROY.

??? Goodman and Frazier are as good as it gets. Huson is obnoxious as NUMBERICA after 18 drinks but at least he knows wtf he's talking about.

Baseball announcing for the most part is for fans of the team and not national ball fans. Who wants to watch other teams anyway?

It will be a fun race. I just don't see Bryant being able to match Soler's production. Soler's approach at the plate is far more advanced and Bryant will have more K's and struggle more than Soler hitting with guys on base imo. Every time Soler hits the ball he hits it hard. But I've long been a Soler homer.

I get that announcers are going to have bias. I'm cool with that. But some are better than others. For instance, as a Giants fan, I hate the Dodgers. Hate them. But I could listen to Vin Scully all day long. He's very good at what he does. Extremely knowledgable about the game and knows what to say. The Padres guys are actually fairly easy to listen to (I believe Dick Enberg calls SD games). There are others around the league that are pretty good. Most of the time I can get the Giants feed. But when they play AZ or CO, I have to listen to their announcers, and they seem to have just enough baseball knowledge to get by. They spend lots of time talking about random crap.

I agree that Soler hits balls hard. I disagree that Bryant is going to k a lot more. Both will rack up the Ks during the course of a season. Bryant probably takes a few more BBs even though both have very good plate approaches and I believe Bryant will showcase more power and overall put up better numbers. Only time will tell of course.

To each their own. I can't stand Drew. Not sure why. He just gets under my skin.

I would be surprised if Bryant didn't K more considering he has swung and missed more at every level than Soler (excluding the majors, of course). Plus, I don't think he'll be able to pick up any extra value defensively. I'm not down on Bryant at all, I think he's going to be really good, I just think Soler is too good for him to catch this season. Going forward - with those two guys in the corner of the outfield - good God, that's ****ing insane.
