What's new

***Official new head coach search thread*** (merged)

From what? I have not seen Hollins mentioned in any of the rumors starting to make the rounds.

Lindsey and Hollins have a lot of history together.
Hollins built a great team around two bigs.
Hollins has developed a lot of young basketball players.
Hollins would know how to handle Utah.
Hollins is a PROVEN coach (don't underestimate how much this helps a young GM, to not have to worry about the coach).

I think he is our next coach, unless a better job wants him. From what I've been able to piece together, he is Lindsey's top choice.

I thought Longabardi would be the shoe in, but after digging around and learning more about Lindsey and his background with Hollins, I've changed my stance. Experience is never over-rated. Add in experience with an ability to develop players, tough combination to pass up.

My biggest worry with the European guy is that our core is Favors, Burke, and draft pick (with potential to add Hayward, Kanter and Burks). Will he be able to relate? Is he a guy that our young kids will listen to and buy into?

I'm not so sure he is.

A familiar presence like Malone can help with that. Actually I think it's a must whether the coach is European or native. We really should integrate at least one of the Stock/Karl duo to the team permanently.

I wouldn't worry about that. They've put the Godfather theme on the back in one of his interviews.

You know, I always tried to emphasize the importance of the coach to teach the team set plays. Turn the team into the Spurs of Pop. And the Jazz have that potential more than any other team. So a European coach is a must try for a team in the situation of the Jazz. Do not forget, it is not a one season win. you must take your time to make these players get into the mind of a Euro coach.

Why? I don't think they can necessarily relate to the "young kids" any better than a guy like Watson or any other player who has recently retired. In fact, they may have a harder time. They were superstars; most players on a team are not. They're also quite a bit older vs. some former players who may have taken up coaching after a much shorter career. Most of the best coaches and assistants are guys who had to become real students of the game and scratch and claw to survive. Sure there are a few HOF'ers who turned into great coaches. But far more who were just marginal. I doubt Stockton would ever want to return to the sidelines. As for Karl, he just doesn't have the dedication. He's fine for working with bigs for a few weeks here and there, but I don't see him ever wanting to do it full-time for 7+ months.

Don't know about the Jazz players but I'd do anything that Karl or Stockton would say to me about basketball.

Watson? I'll pretend I didn't read it.
