My point is that we do not know if he is. I do not want the Jazz to take a gamble with this pick. Your assumption that he is is no less a reach then the idea that he may not be.

Show me a list, not sure it works. Who among current coaches is an HOFer? Pops, no, Phil, no. Any other good ones? McHale is so so.

Also Locke made the case that the Hall of Fame player that jumped straight to Head Coach has been one of the more successful routes to being a successful coach. The only person that flopped was Magic Johnson.

To my knowledge, the only success had been Larry Bird, and who knows if he could have kept it up?

Wouldn't that by itself limit the list to good, or at least decent, coaches? Why not just any HOF with a certain amount of games as a HC?

I think the thinking here is that John would prefer the assistant job. He is definitely not hurting for money. He probably has more money than any of us will ever see. Maybe even more than Professor NaOS or PKM.

What about Bill Russell? Yes, his years with Seattle and Sacramento was less than stellar, but you can't discount his time as player/coach, can you?
