What's new

***Official new head coach search thread*** (merged)

I think the secret fourth candidate is Van Gundy.

I hope so, but doubt it. JVG is not perfect, but compared to Alvin Gentry he might as well be Phil Jackson.

**I would love to get Van Gundy.
**I expect Griffin or Snyder and am good with either(slight preference toward Griffin).
**I would loathe hiring Gentry. I view him as a downgrade even vs Corbin.

Having to resign amidst multiple NCAA violations likely hurts Snyder. I'd be ok with Griffin or Snyder, though. I like what DeMarre said about a coach actually working with him on footwork. What a novel idea...to actually spend time helping your players get better. And all along, I thought that was the sole responsibility of the guys at P3.

Everyone knows Alvin Gentry took the Suns back from the brink to the WCF, right? Anyone remember that? And has been the only coach since Pat Riley to get anything out of Shaq?

What are the chances that Brad Jones is the mystery 4th candidate? Isn't he the assistant that we brought back to help with draft workouts?

I don't think there would be a need to keep it "hush-hush." Jones has been an excellent assistant and D-League coach and has ties to Lindsey, Sloan and the Millers. I had predicted he'd be the coach, but with a young team, I think Utah is looking for a real battle-tested leader. Have to admit I'm really holding out hope for Messina or JVG.

But Corbin also spent time with Memo trying to make him better, of which Memo testified of.

Some latest tweets about the coaching search;

Told Jazz assistant coach Brad Jones is on the short list for Utah's head coach opening with Alvin Gentry, Adrian Griffin and Quin Snyder.

From what I'm hearing, it sounds like Quin Snyder remains at the front of the pack for the Utah Jazz coaching position. Jazz like them all.

Justin Zanik has spent time in Europe since season ended. Jazz assistant GM's likely talked to Ettore Messina but don't think he's in mix.

Snyder certainly has the experience: successful as a college HC, a D-League coach, has been an assistant on some very good teams. Also had a one-year stint with CSKA. Of the four mentioned, he's probably the most qualified.
