These extra assets Chicago has accumulated over the years by trade-raping various mismanaged franchises is a big reason, why they're where they're at and why they have so much options going forward.
It's not about Using the first round picks you get in such a transaction, it's about adding them to trades, and using what's left of them.

You clearly have no understanding of what is going on here.

Take a few minutes and run some scenarios in your head going 4-8 years out. Think about how all the contracts will come into play in the future.

If we go and fill up our cap by signing free agents then we will most likely screw this all up. We will end up being forced to move guys we didn't want to. There isn't even any free agents really worth going after that would fit the team. There is maybe 2 or 3 guys and they probably aren't even interested. You don't spend money just to spend it.

This is a lot like chess. You have to think more than just one move ahead.

We have one more year of this to maximize the potential of this rebuild. Renting our cap space for one more year is the smartest thing you could do. It's a win win win.....win. This team still isn't close to contending. There is still a lot of growth that needs to take place. Once we get past this year and we start handing out even more contracts that affect our cap space for years to come, then we won't even have the opportunity to do this kind of asset accumulation.

Be patient. If we try to move to fast then we become a team like Brooklyn and the Knicks. Taking the time to do it right is the smartest thing to do.

Totally THIS

The only guy I'd consider is Deng, and he's prolly not interested even if we overpay. There's probably other veterans out there that have locker room daddy potential, but I don't know them. And other guys that produce stat lines are really guys that defer.
 
My calculation has about $19mm in cap absorbing room for 72 hours. If they match Hayward they better use that **** before losing about 8 of it.
