If he is able to consistently hit the shot when he is left wide open, uncontested, it'll be a hell of a lot higher than 40% in those situations. In which case, yeah, the other team is going to want to guard him. Which would immediately address all of our spacing concerns.

As others have alluded, if he can hit that shot consistently, that brings the other center out from under the basket and opens things up for other guys. It also makes Rudy's passing skills that much more effective.
Why does it bring the center out? If I'm the opposing center I would be overjoyed that Mr. Length has abandoned the paint.
