Y'all do know that the shot from 10'-15' is one of the hardest/worst shots on the court?

They are difficult because there is nearly no such thing as an open 10'-15' shot and they require a lot of touch and aren't as easy to shoot in rhythm.

What we want is Rudy to be taking 15'-18' jumpers. Those are easier to take in rhythm and provide more spacing.

That would work just fine. If they have him shooting 15-18 footers, and he hits them consistenly, the arguments in here hold true and are even more likely to be the case.

If he could get it up and shoot it before anyone strips the ball out of his hands, awesome. It could make his little spin move more dangerous.

If we are this excited about an nba player making 9 15 ft J's he can't be that good. I can make 9 of those in a row. My mind will be blown when he does this in a game

Last year in the pick and roll, Rudy was pretty much only a dive man in the pick and roll.
If we can also run a pick and pop with Rudy a threat, it will force the defense to not leave him open.
If the D is lazy, he hits an open 15 footer.
If the D is on him hard he can pass over his defender to a cutter, or drive past the defender rushing in on him the 2 steps it will take him to dunk it.

I know I just covered it in a simplistic manner, but the meat of it is that if he can hit a 15 footer it may confuse the defense, or force them in the least to pick their poison.

We have Favors and Gobert both able to hit a 15 footer and it will improve our offense and spacing immensely.
Imagine DFav's man coming to help on a pick and pop on Gobert and the Gobert hitting a cutting Favors for a dunk.

It would be hard to stop if they work on this stuff and master it.

We would probably even get more FT attempts as defenders having to hurry to pick up slack on a rotation have a higher chance of fouling.

I like how Rudy can catch the ball near the 3-pt line, take two big steps and dunk the ball. It's like seeing something from Jurassic Park.

Yeah, just had to get that off my chest.

When he tweets about some nice low post moves and a deadly 6' hook shot then I'll get excited. I really fail to see what Rudy shooting a 15 footer does for us. If he is shooting that shot then guys like Hayward aren't. If I'm the other coach I give him that shot all night.

Right now if our wings get into that zone either the big greets them and they lob it to Rudy or the big stays with Rudy and they give up an open shot to a good shooter. Rudy puts so much pressure on the rim I don't see why we would want to negate that by having him float around 15 feet out unguarded.

I agree. We need Favors to be able to extend out to the 3 point line a lot more than we need Gobert to. Honestly, if Gobert didn't improve his offense at all, I'd still be elated with him. We need him for defense. We need Favors for offense. Together, those two could be unstoppable.

This is very true. 8-12 feet is no man's land. Rudy could get good from 15-18 feet and it would be a good benefit to all.

The other thing that is being said a lot is that he won't have it blocked... this is probably true but smaller defenders can still get into his space and affect his shot... its not like he becomes Kareem unstoppable.

As others have alluded, if he can hit that shot consistently, that brings the other center out from under the basket and opens things up for other guys. It also makes Rudy's passing skills that much more effective.
Driving skills too. Rudy is already good at finding a path to the basket, and he can go a long way without even putting the ball on the ground.

The good news (to those saying it's merely practice) is noone is going to block Gobert's 15-foot jump shot in a game so the contested statement is overrated.

How many times has Rudy stood with the ball around the free throw line looking to pass to someone and the defense sags off of him - practically begging him to take the shot? He starts taking it and making it and the defense will have to open up accordingly. I wanted him to start taking it last year and try to figure out how to become a better scorer, but he didn't have the confidence and passed out of it.
