On the top of all the crap posted above (or below if you prefer an opposite thread order), we all knew he was meant to work on that kind of part of his game. It's perfectly natural to get dinosaur sized hardons if he takes his baby steps towards getting to his offensive potential/ceiling. But the real achievement will come when he has 2 or 3 effective post moves with that 15 footer and combine them with all whatever he has to become a nightmare for the opposition. It will happen. It is a small possibility if it does not happen eventually.

Let's edit this: Why will it happen eventually. Because it's Rudy. If you don't know him yet, he is the Grey Gandalf that has seen the Balrog and Heck and fought his way back up to become the White Gandalf (sorry for the racialist example Heaven). This kid will achieve anything that you tell him that he cannot.

Rudy's improving his game and showing all the fire, dedication and hard we love him for? Yawn!

SMH...

I am so excited to see Rudy camping at the free throw line, never venturing into the paint, to use his new-found skill of hitting a free throw.

Which is why it will have no effect on spacing. He shoots it at the end of shot clock and he's the only dude open. Way too much excitement in this thread over a 15' J.

Sigh. . . HE IS ALREADY STANDING THERE!!!! He plays from there already! Generally he is holding the ball with one hand waiting for cutters going toward the basket. Generally they are defended well because nobody is going to close on Rudy at that distance. To accommodate for this Rudy sometimes gets cute with a faux no-look bounce pass to the inside. At the end of the season, having Rudy distribute from there seemed to have success because his view is pretty damned good, and his passing skill is probably better than anyone should have expected.

However, if he could hit a shot from that very same position it would be a big deal because his man couldn't sag toward the middle. Even if he takes the shot, it damn sure isn't going to be a fallaway and he should have the inside track to move to the basket and clean up his own miss as, unless they come out to closely guard him, the opposing center would not be in a position to box Rudy out. It's the same thing that happens when Rudy hands the ball off behind him and the other player takes the shot and Rudy crashes the boards.

Right now, the best way to take Rudy out of the game is to body him 10 feet or more away from the basket with a big dumb oaf (like Plumlee.) If he could shoot legitimately enough to fake the shot and drive, THAT would help immensely as well and make it damn hard for a caveman like Plumlee to defend Gobert one-dimensionally.

It's what the 15 J represents. A steadfast commitment to improving his game. His time with Nowitzki's shooting coach will affect this FTs as well. Plus he mentions that he is working on lower body strength and a couple post moves.

This J is only one more piece to the puzzle of hopefully generational player.
