What's new

Official skills challenge, 3pt shootout and slam dunk contest

If Rudy Gobert could learn how to do a front flip, it might be possible, since he only really needs to be around 10 inches off the ground to dunk.

Most NBA players need to be around 20-30 inches off teh ground to dunk though. Top level gymnast probably have trouble (maybe not even possible) doing a flat footed full rotation and at the end still be 20 inches off teh ground.

Really, watching LaVine's dunks again, noting really impressed me besides the 1st dunk. The most impressive thing is just how high he is able to jump. I wish he would have broken out a 360 or something. It would be cool to see him do something like a 360 between the legs dunk. I think he has that kind of dunking potential.

it's nothing new. but he did it with style.

I was really hoping Lavine would pull this one out

Everybody would have lost it!

I agree. The Space Jam dunk was awesome. His other ones were still good, but he could have done better.

i think dunk like this is little too risky because if you miss it once, then you lose your leg and you miss the 2nd dunk.
remember james white? he does that routinely everywhere anytime. but when the bright light was on he froze.

James White was also 30 years old when he tried it in the Dunk Contest, not 19 like LaVine.

that's true, but james white still had plenty of hops. he just couldn't finish it. i guess it's so hard to dunk in front of the tough crowd and tough judges.

Curry might be in the top five best shooters in the league, but I wouldn't say he's #1 at all. This is his fourth 3pt contest (I believe) and first time winning it. Kyle Korver is in my opinion the undisputed best shooter in the league (52% from three). Korver didn't deliver tonight, but he's over 12% pts higher than Curry's 3pt %.

You can't be serious.

Curry is the undisputed best shooter in NBA history. Saying he might be in the top 5 of the NBA right now is retarded as hell.

A few thoughts from the show tonight.... I had to DVR, just watched it.

1. From reading some of the comments in the beginning of this thread, it would seem like none of you realized they were using extra money balls in the three point contest.. That's why the scores were so high.

2. The skill challenge is embarrassing to watch. What the hell is that thing? Please get rid of it.

3. The shooting stars challenge is awful too. Not quite as bad as the skills challenge, but still pretty bad.

4. The Allstars weekend in general just seems to get worse. They keep making bad tweaks to it.

5. Nobody should have expected anyone but Lavine to win the dunk contest and Curry to win the three point contest. Was there ever really a doubt in anyone's mind?

6. The three point contest did have a lot of big names. That was cool. Please get rid of bad dunkers like Plumlee. It's painful to watch. Every year there seems to be one of these types.

7. The announcers talking loudly over the PA as the participants were doing their thing was extremely annoying too. It just seems unnecessary and serves as a distraction to the players. I'd rather have them more focused so we can see their best.

8. Lavine is so bad ***. I wish we would have drafted him. I don't think he is just a dunker either. That guy has star written all over him. So much potential there.
