Official UofU homer thread

Wow what a game, BYU was better today, they would've beat us in OT imo. Going for 2 wasn't ballsy it was stupid, than you run head first into a pile? I'll take it though.

Disagree. Their defense looked absolutely gassed at the end not to mention the 2 players lost to questionable targeting calls. Sitake said in the post game Hill had a pass option. On the road against our defense, I think you try to end the football game right there. I don't want to say Hill choked it at the end, but it looked like a very poor decision on his part led to him being tackled where he was. Think of it this way, if they are successful on that two point conversion winning the game would you be calling them stupid? I doubt it. You have the advantage of hindsight.

I also disagree that they were better today. A better team takes advantage of a +3 TO advantage and wins that game. With that advantage they still had to charge down the field down by 7 to try to tie or win it with about 3 minutes left in the game. Both teams played an awful and sloppy game overall. Our defense ended up making all the difference.

Their was someone in the stands with a laser pointer shining BYU players, pathetic.

Every fanbase has idiots. This week brought out the worst elements of each fanbase. I would love it if this game isn't scheduled beyond 2020. Too much venom being spewed from both sides.

Don't get me wrong, I'll take the win. But Utah looks pretty underwhelming after 2 games. BYU's offense is not good and their defense is "ok", yet we found a way to give them the ball 6 times. USC will ROLL us in 2 weeks if we don't get some stuff straightened out right quick.

I said at halftime I'm surprised we aren't losing by 10+. felt like we should be losing.

how often can you go -3 in turnovers and still win? not often. that was ugly and was brutal to sit through.

i'm happy we won, but can we sure up ball security otherwise we are getting dominated by usc.

I actually like what our offense has done. I like what Williams has done. NOW, he has a lot to learn and he needs to get a lot better, but the coaches know that we are really, really good but we need a pass game. Desperately. So, they are trying to get Williams up to speed before the regular season starts.

Look, we turned the ball over 6 times and beat BYU. We are just better. In every way. Hell, I'd rather have Troy than Taysom as our QB.

We will come out and throw it another 30+ times vs SJSU to get Troy as much experience as possible. Then, come USC, we will run Moss down their throats and back off the throw game and go back to utah football BUT with a more dynamic QB for those runs and PA throws.

All of this is just practice for PAC-12 play. No one thought Utah would lose tonight. And as poorly as Utah played, they still won. There is no excuses now, Utah is just the better team and has far surpassed BYU.

The key to Utah's season is finding an inside runner (which they did in Moss) and getting Troy Williams up to speed, which they are trying to do. It's up to Williams to not make the same mistake twice.

Holy ****. Were those the worst refs in the history of football? Also how do you lose a game when you get 6 TO's and have the refs in your back pocket. How is it roughing the passer when he is in your arms before he throws the ball? How is it not intentional grounding when you don't make it to the line of scrimmage were not out of the tackle box and there was not a receiver within 20 yards of where it bounced. How does the clock stop when a guy is tackled in bounds, with 40 seconds left, and short of the 1st down.
.
Between Utah and the refs handing BYU this game on a silver platter I'm not sure how they lost. Pathetic play from Utah, the worst I may have ever seen from the Utah offense, and they somehow still win.
.
As a Utah fan I don't feel good about either win this season. I've very skeptical that this team is going to win 6 games. They have looked really bad, at least they won both of them.
.
Also is it any wonder that the Utes don't want to play that team anymore? Bad sports, dirty players, and no real benefit for Utah if they win.
.
I hope they cancel the rest of the series, I have no interest in ever seeing the Utes play that team anymore.

Two bad interceptions by Williams. His other was just a great play and catch by the defender. The pick in the end zone was absolutely terrible. Pure greed on that throw. He needs to throw the ball away. The other was pretty terrible too. Joe Williams makes me want to pull my hair out.

In what way were they "better"? Utah tried to hand them the game. most of the TO's were not even spectacular plays by the cougars but instead dumb *** **** the Utes did to themselves. They got 6 TO's and still had less yards than Utah (at least till the final drive), less points than Utah and couldn't convert gifts into points at an even acceptable rate.

This is a question for anybody, but when the targeting was called on the BYU player the INT had not been completed, The Utah player was moving towards the play when he is taken out. So how was that INT upheld? the BYU player had not even touched the ground after touching it before the BYU defender hit the Ute in the head.

I can't really comment on the timing. I was at the time shaking my head in disbelief that it ended up being caught by them and not us. It looked like a solid throw that more often than not ends up a TD.

Couldn't disagree more with the BYU was better angle. Taysom is not a fit for what Detmer wants to do offensively. He did have a few really nice runs but other than that, Utah dominated them defensively. Offensively for the Utes I felt like we moved the ball just fine.

When I posted that the Utes looked underwhelming, it was because Troy Williams made awful decisions, and it seemed like we were fumbling the ball every other play. I actually came out of this game feeling better about our talent and play making ability. It's just that now I'm petrified of our decision making and our ability to hold onto the damn football.

I agree with this. If not for the 6 TO's this is a blowout in favor of the Utes. They were better, more talented and controlled BYU's offense effectively. They just kept shooting themselves in the foot.
