IDK what talent level Utah attracts compared to the top Pac-12 schools, but I'd assume it's less than, right?
Football is just so talent driven that it's hard to overcome when you get out-recruited every year by teams in your conference.

Honestly Utah should have shut the program down and just gone out on top.

I think their talent level is higher than schools like Colorado and Wazzu and obviously lower than schools like USC and UCLA. I see where you're going with your argument so let me try and lay this out as simply as possible: Whit is a fine coach who runs a good program. He's also a coach who's never been able to develop QB's, has never been able to field a competent offense since joining the PAC, and who's teams routinely fade at the end of each season. If you're Utah, I think it's fair to start the conversation about what this program can possibly be with a coach that can actually recruit/develop Quaterbacks and run an offense that puts pressure on the opposing team.
Seems like some of you feel like Utah and its fans should just be content with what we already have. IMO, Utah can be better than that.

Maybe not as much as you think? That game was a one-off. While obviously a big win and a huge moment for the program, it really has nothing to do with what Utah's year in and year out ceiling can be in regards to competing to win PAC championships.
Fair enough. Agree that you can't be content and have to try and get better, but at the end of the day a lot of it comes down to recruiting. Are there any coaches out there that are better than Whit? The guy has done an impressive amount of work despite not having a great place to recruit from compared to other schools in the conference.

247 ranked Utah as the 8th best recruiting class in 2016 for the PAC12. Same website had them 10th in 2015, 11th in 2014, 9th in 2013, and 8th in 2012. That is just one website, IDK if those ranking hold consistent for the other talent elevator websites, but they are usually somewhat close to each other.
If you do replace the coach, the most important thing is probably bringing someone in who can recruit, because if you want to be a top PAC12 team year after year, you have to at least recruit in the top half of the conference.
Because the risk of being a school like Utah who misses on HC is that you lose recruiting power and your coach is lesser than what you have. It's not like you are a big school missing on a hire who still gets recruits regardless.
And can the QB position really to be the blame of Utah? The guy they got this year is pretty good for being a first year and starter and Travis Wilson probably reached his talent level. He couldn't have been ranked that highly as a recruit.

You're 100% right about the risk involved for a school on Utah's level. You absolutely can not miss.

Travis was a 4 star recruit who attended the Elite 11 QB camp.
I looked it up on ESPN and they had him rated as a "78" (3-star). That's on the high end of a 3-star for ESPN.
Rivals also has him listed as 3 star.
247 had him listed as a low 4 star.

well that sucked. oregon just outplayed us today. blame can go around but 21 points of offense is terrible against a team that gives up 40+ a game.

he's a good coach if you want to be competitive but nothing more. i guess that's fine for some people but when the south is well within reach and you keep falling short of that goal year after year you gotta understand fans being frustrated. ****'s getting old.
