Taysom is a stud but I seriously think it was the best case scenario, I personally love Mangum dude can throw straight bombs, and with BYUs tall WRs I think you get more out of them with a pocket passer that isn't constantly hurt....Taysom will go down with Luke Staley imo as one of the major unknowns of what they really could've accomplished had it not been for stupid injuries.

Injuries are huge. That's why I don't think non P5 teams should be in the playoffs.

If Utah lost Wilson for the year, would they be undefeated right now? I don't know. Maybe. Utah is winning because of their defense. They might still be undefeated.

What if Booker went down? That would be rough. BUT, Utah has had a very solid run game for a long time and we put another RB in all the time.

Injuries are tough. But Utah has a lot of depth. Depth that most teams don't have.

That's why they are undefeated.

Everyone loses when their offensive line goes down, especially Center.

I don't know about College, but teams only win 20% of the 1st games in the NFL they play without their regular starting center.

Look at Utah. They have had 9 starters miss time due to injury.

Thats weak. What 9 starters were they and how much time did they miss and against what teams?

I have watched a decent amount of ute games this year and their most recognizable names to me are Wilson, booker, covey, scott, paul, and dimmick.
How many games have those guys missed? What teams did they miss the time against? These questions matter when you are discussing how bad the injury bug has hit a team.

Well of course I'd take Sr Taysom over Fr Mangum as well but I think for the future it works out well for you guys...I watched the Nebraska game taysom was straight baling but the whole game I kept asking when is this gut gonna get hurt just because they way he plays....don't like BYU but have mad respect for Taysom

Amazing how you have turned into the type of fan you used to hate when utah was in the mcw.

P.S. I included toledo in my post of teams that were able to go undefeated despite injuries. You dont have to be p5 to win with injuries.
Hell even with byu being about the unluckiest injury situation possible they still beat a p5 team on the road and damn near beat the top pac12 team (at the time) on the road.

I have turned into that type of fan. It's easy to say that you are great when you play a good team then three weak teams then a good team again. The week in week out grind real.

Look at Utah and TCU. Two programs that were winning 10 games a year. First year in P5 conferences they have losing schedules. Once they had a chance to recruit depth, they are both back to where they were in the MWC.

Look at BYU. Beat Nebraska. Beat Boise. Beat UCLA for three quarters. Then their depth shows up. They get tired. They have a couple injuries. UCLA wins the fourth quarter and the game. Then Michigan rolls them.

Again, BYU is not unlucky. They won with two hail Mary's. That's the definition of luck. Their depth issues are their fault. If BYU never goes Independent, they've probably played in a couple BCS/NY Bowls and have too 25 recruiting classes every year. Their average recruiting class their last 4 years in the MWC was 33-35. Since Indy? 60-65.

They don't get to blame luck when they did that to themselves. You can't pull a loaded gun out, point it at your foot, pull the trigger then say you were unlucky.

BYU has been very lucky this year. If not for luck, they would have started 0-4. BYU was lucky that they didn't have to play Cincinnati's starting QB. Didn't Boise and ECU have QB injuries as well? BYU has been very lucky this year. If not for luck, there is a good chance BYU is 1-5 right now.

I could just as easily say that byu would be undefeated if not for injuries.
Also, byu did play against Cincinnati's starter. They went with him because he had been so good while the other qb was out. Both qb's were healthy

My point was that the type of injuries, the timing of the injuries and the players who get injured make a difference.
Do you disagree with that?

Thank God Utah's coaching staff and players won't be as dismissive of USC as their fans are because if that were the case, they'd get their asses handed to them this Saturday.

Not dismissive of USC just very confident in Utah. I think we all recognize how much talent they have, most of us just don't think it will be enough to deal with Utah's discipline and experience.

Also green, I would like to see the link where you predicted 11-1 season for the utes (I actually wouldn't surprised if it were true, this is green we are talking about after all, I just don't remember seeing it)


In the beginning of this thread before a game was played I predicted the utes would go 9-3 and challenge for the pac12 title. And that was when I thought Oregon and usc would be good. I also predicted before the season began that this was the utes best pac 12 team yet
