What's new

Official UofU homer thread

The most exciting news of Ute camp to me, and I've read a whole paragraph about Ute camp now, so far is that Stephen...err....Britain Covey is tearing it up. That kid might be the most exciting to watch high school prospect the state of Utah has ever produced. I'm definitely curious to see how much that will translate to college.

The two utes that I really hate that BYU lost - and from Utah County, no less, are Chase Hansen and Britain Covey. It will be really interesting to see how they use Covey. Kid's a playmaker.

......until 3 straight 3 and outs than Whitt will bring in Thompson. The Utes are going to be solid all around as usual, running the ball and good defense travels anywhere, if the Utes can get anything that resembles consistency from either QB we are a scary team but I don't think I'd put my money on either QB right now. Wilson is frustrating, some times you see what he does and you're in awe but then the next play he throws a stupid pass or takes an unnecessary hit. Same with Kendall, special at times but not consistent either. Being apart of the Pac 12 and being in the discussion is fun man, BYU fans you're missing out and you should feel lucky we're willing to schedule you guys (honestly BYU does have one of the tougher non-conference schedules).

Booker is going to explode this season.

I read a Colorado Buffs Season preview. They described their schedule as the "schedule from hell". They want to win one or two conference games to get some attention. It's true too. If they can pull off a big win or two it would definitely help them. The SEC and the PAC 12 are probably the only conferences where you can sell a win or two as a positive.

I'm gunna be optimistic about Wilson(and Whitt). I think Wilson will be consistently aggressive this year. I think Whitt will finally let him off his leash. I think last year Whitt needed to be over .500 and he had a formula on how to get there. It got him his new deal. Now, the goals have changed. Whitt needs to prove that not only can he win games but that his teams can play offense. He needs more convincing victories and less close calls. I think our offense will surprise some people this year as I blame last season on coach being overly conservative. I think that is behind him now.

The crazy thing is that with how dominant Booker can be at times it opens up the passing game and we still don't capitalize on it which is frustrating.....it's going to be a fun year

Those Uni's will look really good on the new black field, but I wonder how they look on green.

Green, try one on and post a pic.

Espn has the Utes basketball team ranked 13. This is going to be a fun year for sports in SLC. The Jazz, Utes football, and Utes basketball all seem to be on the upswing. I'm so ****ing excited.

13. Utah Utes

Delon Wright was college basketball's best all-around player. He blocked shots, created steals, avoided fouls, drew fouls, made shots, dished assists and rarely turned the ball over. He won a gaggle of awards. He led Utah to the Sweet 16 two years after it went 15-18. We can't say it enough: Dude was awesome. And now he's gone.

Yet Larry Krystkowiak still has three lights-out senior guards (Jordan Loveridge, Brandon Taylor, Dakarai Tucker), a future lottery pick for a sophomore center (Jakob Poeltl), a 6-foot-8 former top-100 prospect (Brekkott Chapman) who shot 44 percent from 3 in reserve minutes last season and a host of budding talents (Isaiah Wright, Kyle Kuzma, juco guard Lorenzo Bonam) filling in on the margins. The more we think about this team, the more convinced we are of its ability to weather Wright's departure. Given where the program was even two seasons ago -- to say nothing of the desiccated husk Krystkowiak inherited in 2011 -- that's quite the statement indeed.

I srsly have no idea why BYU hasn't gone back to the MWC yet. If they did they would have a chance to take the MWC and get into a New years bowl. Hell they would have a better shot at a power 5 invite from within the MWC than as an independent. An independent BYU doesn't threaten the status quo at all. Add them to the MWC and that conference becomes that much more dominate over the remaining conferences. As is, it feels like the Miami Beach bowl is a forgone conclusion. It's too bad for Taysom Hill, imo. BYU needs to pull their heads out of their asses, pick up the phone, and get back into the MWC yesterday.

Money matters. And from a money standpoint, independence is working. That's why.

If New Years bowl games are the goal, Utah so should go back to the MWC. But they won't do that because if you're making money , New Years bowl games are otherwise mostly meaningless. It's all about the playoff now.
