Official UofU homer thread

Money matters. And from a money standpoint, independence is working. That's why.

If New Years bowl games are the goal, Utah so should go back to the MWC. But they won't do that because if you're making money , New Years bowl games are otherwise mostly meaningless. It's all about the playoff now.

BYU won't get into the playoff. So just forget that.

Utah is already in a power five. You must have skipped the part where I said BYU was more threatening to the status quo in the MWC than outside of it.

Money, really?

1) BYU is a major face of the LDS church. I think independence is hurting the schools image. I think for BYU that trumps money.
2) The Utah and BYU situation isn't comparable. Utah isn't just getting money they are getting insane money.
3) The MWC would probably let BYU keep their channel(BYU would be worth it) making the money difference somewhat less of an issue. Yeah they will lose a lot of money but we are talking about BYU not some pauper school. BYU doesn't need ESPN money to improve their facilities and make ends meet.
4) We will see what BYU's next ESPN contract looks like if they keep destroying their brand.

I srsly have no idea why BYU hasn't gone back to the MWC yet. If they did they would have a chance to take the MWC and get into a New years bowl. Hell they would have a better shot at a power 5 invite from within the MWC than as an independent. An independent BYU doesn't threaten the status quo at all. Add them to the MWC and that conference becomes that much more dominate over the remaining conferences. As is, it feels like the Miami Beach bowl is a forgone conclusion. It's too bad for Taysom Hill, imo. BYU needs to pull their heads out of their asses, pick up the phone, and get back into the MWC yesterday.
I kind of agree.
I want to be in a conference. But the mtn west is a tough pill to swallow

Any future admissions to power 5's will come from the MWC imo. The Mountain West isn't power five but it isn't **** either. BYU would probably either play in a New years Bowl or the Fiesta Bowl every year. Win those games. That's how you get an invite to a P5 imo. Disturb the status quo.

I have heard allot of talk about them getting into a p5 conference recently...... And they are currently independent.

It might be easier/more likely to happen coming from the mtn west but that isn't the only way

byu would rather go down with the sinking ship of independence than swallow their pride and ask back into the Mtn West. byu is getting paid peanuts by ESPN, so it's not about money. The only claim that has any weight at all is that they get better exposure on ESPN than in the MWC, which is probably true, but winning the MWC and getting to a NY Bowl gives you more exposure than 10 seasons worth of Wednesday night vs Chattanooga St @ 11 PM ET games. I don't know why byu thinks "exposure" is the holy grail of college football in the first place, but if it were, they are going about it in the wrong way.

It was pride that got byu in this mess (after Utah got invited to the Pac 12 byu HAD to do something to show they weren't a mid major. This would be comparable to someone buying a boat because their neighbor did, even though they make about half their neighbors salary) and it will be pride that keeps byu in irrelevance forever. Things are going to get much much worse for byu if they don't accept who they are, which is a mid tier football program that can compete very well and have some nice seasons in a mid level league.

My hope is that byu keeps doubling down on Independence, hoping for that Big12 invite that is never ever ever coming. I hope byu is trapped in football hell like this forever.

I predict Utah 7-5 or under for the year. Anybody want that action?
I think they will be better than that.

Usc has issues, Michigan is down right now and breaking in a new coach, ucla is overrated, they will probably beat Utah state and Fresno, they will beat cap and Colorado..... Plus this might be the utes best pac12 team yet.

I think they finish 9-3

What new additions do they have that make that so? Keep in mind No Orchard or Clay, which were two absolute game changers. Seemed like those two were the whole team as far as making plays at times when I watched them. I think the luck factor with Utah's season last year was very underrated. The Pac games they actually won were won by an average of 3 points. They were ranked the 76th offense in the country, 58th in defense. You usually aren't winning games when that's the case. They put up that kind of showing again and they'll be exactly what I said or even worse.

Great special teams, no doubt. And Booker is good, but I don't think you to have worry much about Utah's WRs or their QBs so that kind of negates him.

Bottom line, Utah needs to find a good QB before they can become consistent winners in the Pac. Maybe that's Chase Hansen, I don't know. But as far as I know the depth chart is still Wilson/Thompson as the top 2 so it will probably take awhile to find out if that guy is Hansen.

I think Utah qb situation is better simply due to experience. Booker is phenomenal and will start from day 1. Offensive line is better. D-line despite the loss of orchard is better according to reports. Wide receivers is about the same as last year. The linebackers are better. All the reports I hear on talk radio say that the Ute depth overall is at a high point.

Mostly I just think the other teams in the pac have taken a step back though for the most part.

^^^ We'll see soon. I'm just happy college football is about a week away. Definitely will be watching that Utah/Michigan game.
