The play had been over for 5-10 seconds and he decides to hit him while he's down. Dumbass!!

Look at the picture in my quote. His foot is still INBOUNDS, and the defender has already made contact. He's not out of bounds therefore it's not a late hit. Whittingham yelled at him because it drew a flag. The first penalty was a while after the play. He was walking and the guy got up in front of him. It looked like a bit incidental to begin with then he finished by pushing him down. That penalty I sort of understood but think it was a bit of a ***** call. It wasn't a hit and players push after almost every play.It was a late hit. Simple as that

I counted about 8 Hits in the BYU game that happened far later than that hit. And none of them received penalties. That Penalty was BS. He wasn't out. If he was is was close to when he was hit. The other penalty on him was pansy *** as well. Not even a hit, just a push when it looked like he may have been off balance. But this one changed the game. Without that penalty Utah wins by 14+ and the game was over at that time. Michigan scored their TD on the next play.
If this is a homer thread, Britain Covey will be Utah's next Steve Smith-esk player.
FWIW the first call was not an unsportsmanlike penalty or he would have been removed from the game. It was a late hit but not Unsportsmanlike according to the broadcast. It was the follow through combined with the earlier call that got him. You gotta know that the refs are watchin you after you get an unsportsman like.
I don't really disagree with anything in your post.
I would say however that if the defense doesn't score a td and Michigan's qb hit a wide open receiver on an easy pass for a td, then this game could have easily been a loss.
I do agree that utah has a very solid team though and I was one of the first to post in this thread about how I think they will win 9 games or more and have as good a chance as anybody at winning the conference championship
I get that the Michigan QB's foot was inbounds when he got hit, but when you hit a QB that hard as he's so obviously headed out of bounds, I think 90% of refs are throwing a flag.
Glad it didn't cost us the game.
TrueFair enough. In the same vein, if Paul doesn't have two PF's and Phillips hits his FG's, Utah wins 30-3.
This is byu logic after every game.
"If all the stuff that happened in the game had happened differently, then the game would have gone differently."
Cool Story Zoob.
