Official Utah Utes Football 2012 Thread

How about we get this back to a discussion about Utah football and not about BYU's sour grapes?

As far as I'm concerned, USU scares the piss out of me. Gary's done what we all knew he would do - turned them into a force to be reckoned with. And after we play that one other team, I honestly and truly think there is no way our O-line holds off USC's D-line. They were just scary to watch yesterday.

I hope I'm wrong, but I could see us losing a tough one in Logan. BYU is definitely going to be tough, and USC... I sure hope we don't end up 1-3 over the next few weeks.

Please stop, you're depressing me!

USU and BYU will both be tough games, but Utah will be the most talented team in either match up. Now, more talent doesn't always equal certain victory, but if Utah plays smart, turnover free football against both schools, odds are they win both games. BYU will be highly motivated to get that 54-10 memory forgotten, but IMO that type of motivation can cause a team to force the issue and make mistakes. For some reason, USU scares me more than the Coogs.

As a USU fan I must say thanks for the props. Anderson has done a marvelous job up here building the program (thanks Utah). It is nice to see some people actually say that they think USU will give UofU a game. The Utah D is what scares me, especially the d-line. It will be interesting to see if USU can establish any kind of running game. It will be nice to see how USU stacks up against a team that I think is very talented. As Utah fans what do you think are your teams strengths and weaknesses? What do you look for in this game? Here's to a great game, with hopefully no injuries.

Oh this is just RICH.

So that's your opinion now, but when it comes to 1984... Well, that's OK.

I will never understand the hypocrisy of the BYU fan base.

When did I ever say that it was ok in 1984? I would have loved to have had a tournament in 1984 to decide who was and who wasn't champion.

I think I've firmly established my hatred for polls and computers. Let the players decide who is champion.

What hypocrisy is being shown here? Due tell

A 32 team playoff (5 games for those going to the championship game) in addition to a 12+ game season is asking WAY too much out of the student athlete's body and health. The amount of injuries would become astronomical. I don't think they would or should do this.

Personally, I think taking almost 2 months off to play championship games is worse than playing for 5 weeks. Kids get out of shape, out of the routine, etc.

And since when has the NCAA been concerned with a student's body and health? Just look at how all this super conference realignment and the money involved has made it so college kids are playing later, missing more school, and playing more games anyway. So I don't want to hear about player health or safety.

Fine. Limit the tournament to 16. Just have a tournament. Let the players decide who is champion. Just like every other sport.

USC's line is all young pups too, so that was really game 1 for them as a unit. They'll be much better when they play Utah. Barkley and Co are still what should put real fear into you though. He just spot throws now. Just puts the ball wherever he wants. It's beautiful. I know you guys are really SC fans at heart too. We all are. Just remember not to clap too loud for them when they come to SLC. You'll want to. Hold it in.

Are you saying that you have never, ever, touted BYU's "National Championship" from 1984 to a Utah fan?

Does the big east maintain it's automatic bid? If not, then what does Boise gain?

In your attacks against BYU you ignore the fact that college football is the least progressive sport out there. It doesn't reward good teams like every single other sport does.

Polls and computers should NEVER determine championships. Being tied at the hip to some conference should never be a determining factor. Just look at the embarrassment that last year's PAC-12 championship was. UCLA wasn't even in the same league as Oregon.

San Antonio would have never been while the Knicks would have a dynasty.
Green Bay? Would never even sniff the Lombardi trophy while the Jets and Cowboys would constantly be in the hunt.

Let the players decide championships. Not polls and computers.

Break down all conferences now and let them duke it out in a 32 team playoff.

How good were the Utes in 04? 08? We'll never know because we didn't have a tournament like everybody else does.

Stupid.

Again, stop crying. The new playoff system will be introduced in 2014. 32 teams would be stupid and insane. You don't add that many games to a college football season.

Why would I tout anything to a Utah fan? It's not like Utah has won anything either.

Not having a playoff system prevents us from finding out who the champ truly is.

Yeah, I know about this new "playoff" system. Still sucks. 4 team playoff. yipee. YOU GOT ME THERE! LOL

Still not even close to satisfactory.

It's hilarious to watch the flip flops from little brother fans here. A few years ago the BCS was corrupt and evil. Now that you're a part of the evil empire, you're actually defending the BCS. Now you have folks like trigg having orgasms over a 4 team playoff. LOL

How can you see 5 feet in front of you with this stinky cloud of hypocrisy hanging over your head?

Gotta go with at least 8 team playoff before I give the NCAA any credit.

Answer the original question, please. Better, yet... let's change the original question since we're doing this again.

Are you saying that you have never, ever, touted BYU's "National Championship" from 1984... to anyone?
