Couple thoughts...
Hays seems much more comfortable working with Brian Johnson's playbook/style. I thought he was great tonight. Fight, hustle, crisp passes - not as athletic, but works with what he has - like Brian did.
Was really impressed with Riley Nelsons leadership/fight until things fell apart in the 3rd quarter. Utah seemed to really get in his head, expose his weaknesses and it changed the game.
Really going to miss the rivalry game. After this game, I really don't even care if it's played at the end of the season. This game will always be magic no matter when it's played.

I think you're being a bit harsh on Hays. But if White is hampered by injuries all year it becomes a moot point. White basically is the Utes' running game.
As I said shortly after, he played within himself well and had some poise. But he was simply okay. He needs to be better than that in a real, real conference to have the Utes keep pace.
The defense not blowing plays and getting whistled at a Raiders-esque rate would help, too.

I think the Utes played as I thought they would. They came out physical, aggressive, and with a sense of urgency. I haven't seen a Ute team face off against BYU without an awesome amount of energy and confidence in years. They always seem to come in prepared and aggressive.
BYU on the other hand... Quite honestly, I haven't seen a Bronco led team come into the rivalry game with the fire and confidence that Utah has.
I think the thing that's most disappointing to me is the lack of creativeness in Doman's game plan. He makes Robert Anai look like Mike Leach or Sean Payton.
Where were the reverses? The trick plays? The going 5 wide? The bubble screens? And how the hell do you go the entire game without targeting Apo?
I don't feel like Doman was ever ready to be OC. I don't feel like BJ was either. I think both those guys could benefit from gathering more experience outside their respective programs. Doman desperately needs to get some new ideas. Whether it's looking at some Oregon or Northwestern film so he can run the up tempo shotgun spread attack that he seems to attempt to run... Or check out Stanford to learn how to watch that power pro style attack which BYU tries to run sometimes.
Diversity, creativeness, and new ideas is what's needed for both offenses. More experience and more vision is needed for both OC.

Hays is who he is good sometimes bad at other times. The only reason he's here is the tiny school he was at 2 years ago droped football, and at the time Utah had on qb on the roster. He managed the game didn't turn the ball over. He reminds me of the 49ers version of Alex Smith in that regard tonight. The one gripe I have is he sometimes holds on to the ball too long and takes sacks, but it could've been worse. Just ask BYU. A sack is better then an int.

Wow. What an exciting game. Both of these team are probably going to struggle this year.
Who is #9 for BYU? That guy attempted to intentionally injure Utah players after the play was over 4 different times. Including the one where he alligator rolled with Hayes's leg after taking him to the ground. I hope that guy is permanently injured before he does it to somebody else.

Considering the pressure he was getting, I thought he did just fine. I kept thinking he was sure to throw some picks on some of those throws he was getting hammered on. Wilson would have been a trainwreck with such lousy protection.

Utah's offensive line is terrible. Can't run or pass block. It's going to be a long season for the offense if they don't get it fixed. But at this point how do you fix it?

Pretty sure that's Sorensen. I didn't see the plays you are talking about (I missed all 3 quarters of the game due to work) but that's cheap. I don't like it when players go that kind of stuff.
