Official Utah Utes Football 2012 Thread

I came in here and congratulated the Utes. I guess you chose not to see that part of it? He's the guy that brought up "the worst call in the history of the sport". Get a freaking clue.

Well let me respond to that directly.

I'm not saying I would have made that call, but it is the rule. Yes, it's a technicality. It could be called in a lot of games.
But they usually aren't. Calling it a call on a technicality is almost gracious in and of itself. You know how bad it was. The game was over. BYU got ANOTHER kick AND 15 yards because the field began to be rushed after the clock struck 0 and the Utes had the ball. You know how bad it was, I can tell.

I mean, really, truly awful. I'm not a scholar on the history of the game, but in my limited memory, I cannot think of a call so lopsided against the practicality of the game and in favor of a team in a win/lose situation. Unbelievable.

Dude, it was bad, no doubt. But it's almost like the football Gods knew that it was BYU's kicking team that would be the beneficiary. Did anyone here honestly think that either of those kicks were going to go in?

Honestly, yes I'm thrilled Utah won and I'm going to collect a nice bonus Monday at work, but I really can't celebrate the victory because Utah made so many stupid *** penalties. When does a win feel like a loss? I guess this qualifies. Either that or beating BYU is getting so old that it's not as exciting anymore.

Trust me, this isn't it. It's cute how you guys dodged a major bullet so you can continue to play this card, but if you care to be 100% intellectually honest with yourself, you're going to miss the rivalry week/game.

Oh well, another 365ish days to think about how many games our kickers lose for us until it probably happens again.

I think the referees got the attitude that they needed to "keep the attitudes in check" for this game. The "chippiness" was anticipated and made them sensitive. It seems to me that a lot of the stuff they called either goes unnoticed or is just not usually enforced. After watching college football today I'm convinced that Utah is going to have a rough year, especially if John White is sidelined for awhile. The PAC 12 has looked better than expected in it's non-conference schedule (according the me) and Utah has looked much worse than I thought they would. The Utes could be in for a long season too.

Well, what can ya say? Sometimes, ya just gotta tip your hats off to the more aggressive and better coached team and call them your daddy.

I love this rivalry game. No matter who's injured, who's favored, etc it almost always features things that I've never seen before.

The 4th down long ball reminded me of Austin 4:18. Why the Utes can't cover those plays is beyond me.

Then the weird call at the end which allowed BYU to kick a much easier FG attempt. I didn't think either were going in. But it sure made for some fun drama (doubt Bronco or Kyle thought it was fun though).

Utah is going to be in the bottom half of the PAC 12 as long as they can't find a guy that can really play QB. And if John White can't pick up the slack? Yikes.

I don't mean to be a defeatist, but a realist. You can't win in the modern game without a QB. Or, you know, anything resembling an offense.

I did think Hays managed the game pretty well. Played within himself well. Looked confident. That's good, I guess.
