Okur's Defense

Agreed. And just think how much faster he would've started trying to defend (and how many additional games the team would've won) if the defense of AJ (and others) had actually been enforced.
.

More BS. The season is just a month old. How much sooner would you have wanted AJ to be comfortable at both ends of the floor, especially considering that he came from a team where there was'nt anything resembling a system? It is only because the defense is enforced that AJ has atleast come this far.

Only rookies (and those with career minutes resembling rookies) need minutes for development. Every other player needs to be benched for every minor infraction.

duh.

Memo's a solid low-post defender. It's not a coincidence that Gasol normally scored 18-22 points against Memo but 26-33 against Boozer (since Memo basically missed the last 2 playoff series w/the Lakers).

Memo struggles in transition defense and help-defense. Then again, when you take into account the way he spreads the floor and allows us to execute - as Sloan likes to point out, when we run our offense properly we're in position to get back on defense so IMO he will definitely help this team (once he's 100% recovered - which may not be until all-star break) more than he may hurt it.

The 82games.com stats from the past few seasons support the contention that Memo is a better defender than Bozzer (Jazz defense was better with Okur on the court than it was with Boozer on the court). Both are terrible defenders though (Memo's transition D, PnR D and weakside help D are atrocious just like Bozzer's).

Unfortunately, Carlos made up for his bad defense with good offense far more than Okur. Hell, the Jazz have been jut as good with Memo off the court as with him on the court during his years in Utah.

With the way Elson is playing (along with good minutes at the 5 by Fes, and the ability of AK and Evans to play at the 4), if the Jazz can move Memo for an upgrade at the 2, the Jazz could be real contenders THIS YEAR. I like Memo, don't get me wrong, but with the relative depth up front, he's not going to add all that much to the team when he gets back, especially since he's probably now the worst defensive player on the entire team.

I like this idea, but honestly, with the owners we have, I picture them moving AK for cash, picks, and/or a cheap 2 from the DLeague that they can lease for the rest of the year (ala. Maynor for Gaines or Brewer for a 6-pack) and keep Memo and try to fit him in.

I want to see them get aggressive and spend what it takes to get the best players, but we're in L-tax territory unless we can move AK, which is what I expect. Some close contender with some money in the East would take him off our hands, then who knows, maybe we can get him back on the cheap and make that other team pay the big chunk.

I think you might undervalue the help that Memo might provide in matching up with the Lakers. I'd still consider trading him for an upgrade at the 2, but it would have to be a real steal. With a rotation of Raja and AK defending the dynamic wings and the ability to play DWill at the 2 alongside Watson the Jazz have their bases covered better than I thought they would (plus, Price is actually EARNING those 10 minutes a game). I dunno... I'm just weary of trading a chip that has such clear potential to help us against our nemesis.
