Well done to the Aussie dude with the dad bod that just won the 50m freestyle… lol..
How is that possible?
How is that possible?
Yeah and I don’t even have the right answers at all. I just think it’s wild to say “she’s a tranny and this is akin to domestic violence” and politicizing it dangerously. The other side making it simpler is much less dangerous but doesn’t lead to any productive conversation when they say it’s similar to a reach advantage.I think the question about whether Imane is a man or a woman is a simple one - she obviously considers herself one and apparently has her entire life.
The question of her or other intersex or transgender individuals' participation in women's sports IS a little more complicated, and can't simply be boiled down to XX=fine to participate and XY= not fine, which is an argument a lot of people seem to be running with. There's a reason the IOC stopped using Karyotype testing as part of their standards - people can (and do) go their entire lives as a particular gender only to discover their chromosomes don't line up with their purported gender. These revelations have upended people's entire lives, and don't always correlate with "male" traits or physical advantages derived from those traits over their peers anyway.
Ultra heavy eye roll back at you assuming because a question has three potential answers that the way to get to the most correct answer isn’t full of nuance and gray areas.Heavy heavy eye roll. What kind of nuanced solution is there? You either compete as a female or male, or dont compete at all. Those are the 3 options.
I do think it’s worth considering the role that inherent genetic or biological advantages play in competitive sports as part of this conversation.Yeah and I don’t even have the right answers at all. I agree. It’s when they definitively declare “this is just like attribute x”. Well there is a reason we separate men and women in sports. And these instances seem pretty rare so I’m guessing the correct answer is to allow what happened. An overreaction on how we test female athletes would seem to have some more harmful results. And I’m dreading the poor high school girls who play in sports that are more masculine and the BS they might get.I do think it’s worth considering the role that inherent genetic or biological advantages play in competitive sports as part of this conversation.
For example, if a trans woman or an intersex woman has a strength advantage over her peers, is that more meaningful than the same advantage a cisgender woman has thanks to a condition that causes her body to naturally produce more testosterone? Is it more meaningful than a couple inches of extra height, or longer limbs or any number of things that provide advantages in different sports?
It seems one side of this issue really isn’t considering this at all, but if we’re truly interesting in fairness - inasmuch as it can exist in sports, I think we should be.
