i think asik will sign a two year contract for like 10 millions (new cba) with a team that will guarantee him a starting job (which will allow him to play 25-30 minutes per game and that is what he really wants). he will have a chance to perform and get like 6.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg and 1.5 bpg in his first year and like 8 ppg, 10 rpg and 2 bpg in his second year.

after this two years, he will get a new contract worth around 10 millions per year.

Second let's say we do trade Al (hopefully this happens) Asik would be great to get and we could front load a contract for him, but it doesn't save us money in the latter years like mentioned before, cause the front loaded part only accounts for the actuall money paided out it effects our salary cap differently.

I don't know the full details about paychecks versus cap hit, and I know there is a difference, but I don't think cap hit is spread out uniformly. In other words, I don't think the fact that the contract is front loaded as zero effect on the cap hit.

On top of all of this, remember that if we just go ahead and let our expirings expire after next year, then we'd have enough to offer to max contracts. In other words, unless we plan on acquiring two max deals, then a contract for around $5 million a year isn't hurting much.

this is a wrinkle I hadn't thought of, but it isn't a deal breaker. If we have two first-round picks this year, then we definitely don't want a third. I'll take a future first.

right, I acknowledged the difference between paycheck and cap hit, but what you're saying doesn't mean that front loading a contract doesn't save on cap hit in subsequent years. I need to look into this more.

We are paying milsap like 6 million + this year and 7 million + next year, but both this and next year our salary cap hit is 8 million +.

asik is a player I've always wanted to see playing alongside kanter. but losing a scorer center like big al and gaining a defensive center like asik won't improve jazz's chances to be a playoff team when we are struggling that much on the offensive end. relatively speaking.
