Open Carry?

Now we'll know what happened to the tie die twins.

I finally met those fella's up at the Doug Miller tribute ice fishing deal at Rockport this year. Nice guys, really. They look dumber than hell, but they fish more than I do, and that's really saying something.

When I was at UVU I actually felt safer knowing alot of students carry guns on them. If someone ever decided to go Virginia Tech on the school they would be taken down fairly quickly. We wouldnt have to wait for police to get here.

That being said I dont currently own a gun or many guns that would necissitate a gun rack.

But I would like to get a hand gun in the near future.

I hate to admit this, but this is kind of the reason I want one. Whenever I see someone open carry, I always assume they're a cop or some sort of detective. Instant cool factor, imo. I'd also like to be that guy who saves the day by shooting the bank robber. That would kick ***. For more practical reasons, I do hike alone in the uinta's, and I always have my brothers .44 on my hip.

What the hell do you think's going to happen while you're hunting? The Fish Game and Wildlife Commission for the state is going to immediately initiate Fatass Game Season?

I wonder how much of this is an East Coast/NJ vs. Utahr thing too. What I mean is that NJ is the most densely populated state and I would assume response times by law enforcement to 911 calls and such are on average quicker (much quicker?) than many places in Utahr that could be more remote and out of the way. Having said that, for me, locking all my doors, having an alarm system on all doors and windows, and having a dog that's a Chow mix and looks sort of like a wolf makes me feel secure and outweighs any fear, for lack of a better word, I have that my home will be invaded.

Oh yeah, and Trout, you sound like you're a dumbass and will shoot yourself like Plaxico Burress. Please abort all notions of the purchase.

I think you make a pretty good point. In rural areas guns are not alarming. They have a place and serve a purpose that most people understand. In large densely populated cities guns are not normaly carried around and probably the majority are unfamiliar with their use. People in these cities feel like guns are not needed. When they see or hear about guns it is because thugs used them in the commission of a crime, or to kill each other or innocent people. They then decide that guns are bad and that nobody needs them at all for anything. Then they try to tell rural people what they can and can't have and create rules that simply baffle people who have experience with guns.

I've often said the people that make our nation's gun laws are like the people who make Utah's liquor laws; they don't understand them and think that they are unnecessary.

When it comes to regulations, let the people who know about the subject matter make the rules please.

The "Assault Weapons" Ban was about as silly and pointless as Utah's 3.2 alcohol limit for beer.

Your mood might change if you moved to a worse neighborhood. My gun would kill your dog and you, and have plenty extra time to make a ham sammy before disappearing into the densly populated night. That is how I boil it down and demographics don't change anything.

Your point on opinion linked to area is valid though.

Obviously my mood may change in a bad area. That goes without saying. But I highly doubt you or any other intruder would just, unprovoked, come up to my room, kill me and my dog, and then walk back downstairs and sit around making and eating a ham sandwich, while my alarm is blaring the entire time. That's not their MO and it's absolutely beyond Beanclown dumb.

Is it menstral time here or what?
You asked and gave a personalize situation. That's what I responded to.

That, and I don't want a bear or some dumbass hiker who is hopped up on weed and shrooms to try and make me his bitch. I'm pretty feminine you know, and to a ****ed up woods dweller like GVC, I'm sure I'm plenty porkable.

I hope you had a grin on your face when you typed that out, because, damn -- that's funny.

I was expecting a lower grade of humor. . . . something like "Hey, man, maybe it'd be better if you didn't try to put on airs".

I know a lot of folks who have heavy weoponry just in case the Chinese come marching into Utah. Man I wish some of them had brains.

I'd also like some suggestions for decent hand guns.

I suggest the Taurus Judge in 3 inch mag. It will fire .45 colt as well as .410 shotgun shells. Of course, the shotgun shells are the awesome part. There's something very satisfying about pulling the trigger once, and putting 5 holes in the target. That's with 000 buckshot. There's also some pretty crazy ammo from winchester that squashes the 000 buck into disks, and puts them in front of bird shot, all copper plated.

If you really want to carry it in a shoulder holster though, I'd go with the public defender. Same thing, only in a more compact model, but only shoots the 2 1/2 shotshells, instead of the 3 inch mags.
