Open Practice Review

I think Exum was struggling with a combination of nerves and tired legs. Coach Q mentioned they were coming off 3 straight days of 2 a days. Every shot Exum missed was short

Tired legs = short shots
Pressing = long shots

Exum did a decent job staying in front of his man and disrupting shots.

I really was impressed with Erik Murphy. His shot looked good for a 6'10" guy and he was in the right place a lot of the time.

Just like everyone else has said Hood looked great. His shot is smooth he has a few moves like a nice head fake and an ability to drive under control. Really impressed looks like a steal at 23 if he keeps this up.

Rudy was like a man among boys on the boards it is worth noting the blue team had 2 guys over 7 feet playing so he was rebounding against big guys. He also made a great left handed bounce pass into the lane for Trey. He laid a huge block on Ian Clark his kids will feel.

Malcolm Thomas was fast and finished great around the rim. Missed his one three but looked pretty good.

I look some videos I will upload and post the links when I do.

I fell for hood. I really really hated that we picked him. I wanted mcdaniels, anderson, or early way more.

I was very very wrong. I love hood now. Guys with jumpers that pretty get me every time. And he is WAY more athletic than i thought.
Not as good of a jumper as evans but i bet he is a better jumper than alec and probably favors. One if his dunks in warmups had to duck his head so it didnt hit the rim. Swear to god, no matter what fabtrey might say

My dad was giddy like a school girl when he almost hit his head he has legit hops.

This was my favorite thing about tonight

Agreed seeing that improvement continue from the end of last year was very nice. I know it was against summer league guys, but he dominated them like he should.

So sad I couldn't go. From twitter I see the crowd was just below 10,000. Players were surprised.

Tony Jones from the Tribune was raving about Hood, says he is nba ready today.

Favors is going to be a local hero if he is not careful. He showed up in the arena to watch, sat with the fans and paused to sign an autograph. He has been working out with the rookies all week. Favors was the first player Coach Q called after he got the job.

Speaking of coach Q, he expressed amazement over the crowd that turned out to watch basketball practice. He said he has met lots of fans and hopes that everyone is just as nice at mid season.

Have said this numerous times in the Hayward threads...

Hood > Hayward (give him 1-2 years)

He'll shoot it better. He'll contribute better. He'll demand less.

This really was the biggest, best surprise of the night. Trey did what I expected he'd do, and Dante... meh-- it was excusable, but he's got some work to do. Hood took me completely by surprise with his athleticism, and that shot is a thing of beauty. Everything that's been written about him being an immediate contributor-- if 24 minutes of slop ball are any indication-- is 100% legit.

I noticed it from his Freshman year at MSU, Hood is way more athletic than he usually plays. If he can start putting his athletic ability into his game (more aggressive rim attacking) he can be a way better player.

He did not seem very athletic at duke. How was his D?

His defense was always solid at MSU.

One think you have to remember about Duke is that they were a small team that played small at nearly every position. That is going make everyone on defense look worse since the team is always going have mismatches against them every game.

His man on man d was horrible at Duke. McDaniels owned him. I hope he is better on both ends compared with what I saw at Duke. Glad he looks athletic.
