Can I ask a question? Like a real question, that is not set up for debate, or trolling for an argument.
why did Isis attack civilians in France? The French president said something like isis targeted young people because they hated French being alive and happy. Which to me sounds as hollow as the USA narrative after 9-11 "they hate us because we are free"
the French response has been predictable, surely Isis could also predict what the French would do. And I just can't see what Isis has to gain by trying it.
I read an article from someone who was probably sitting in a desk in New York or Washington, D.C. there the author said Isis wants to entice the west into a war in hopes of uniting the Muslim world against west for what amounts to WWIII.
I suppose I am suspicious of these explanations and wondered if they match what Isis people are saying or if there is a more complex explanation.

Dude. It's ALREADY WORKED. The West has been multicultural for centuries now.
Listen, religion in general is not a good thing. Modern Islam least of all. I can't wait for the day it becomes as irrelevant in the Middle East as Christianity is in Europe. But there is nothing sophisticated about your KEEP THE WHITE RACE PURE agenda. And there is nothing naive about those of us who have a more humanist perspective. The West, and its liberalism, will survive. Islamism cannot ever become a viable ideology in the global civilization, and it will surely fail. Forget your "Muslims are backward and will drag us all down" mentality for a minute, and try to think of the bigger picture. Do you want the West to help nudge a major civilization toward modernity and mutual prosperity? Or do you want to block all paths forward?
I don't know if ISIS is big enough a player to incite anything close to a world war. But the rest is correct. They attacked France because they want the West to respond. The more cities are leveled and people displaced, the more people ISIS can recruit. The more vicious ISIS' attacks are, the more difficult the situation for Muslims worldwide becomes. The more difficult the situation for Muslims is, the more they are forced between the choice of abandoning the religion, or joining ISIS' vision of it.

So, would it be correct to say that Isis is fighting a culture war for the hearts and minds of young Muslims? And they use violence to provoke violence against themselves and other Muslims so that other Muslims feel like they must choose a side?
Yes. That is their goal; the destabilization and collapse of the Muslim world in order to reshape it to their vision of Islam. You also have to remember that ISIS is an apocalyptic sect. They dream of a final battle between "true" Muslims and the heathen rest.

Wow, where did I say anything about keep the white race pure? I have nothing against any race man. My younger kid is in school with special program for gifted and talented kids. Guess what, her class has more than 50% Asian kids ( mostly Chinese) and we are good friends with all their families. My soccer team has people from Caribbean islands, Africa, S. America and Asia as well. We all coexist and do well together. I am all for legal and controlled immigration of good people - needless to say I am one of those as well who needed to go through 3 year application, waiting and screening program to enter country legally as skilled immigrant.
Can I ask you how did you ended up in USA?
And those fighting these groups have done a truly superb job at isolating and marginalizing those exact youth. They were even nice enough to put bows on them.

Maybe not for centuries. And while in big countries like USA and Canada it is not big deal, most would agree that Sweden was much much better, prosperous and safer country 30 years ago then it is now. Same things are happening in rest of Europe. I have 3 co-workers from UK who moved to Canada just for that reason. When I asked why, they said that UK is turning into ****hole, sorry.

reminds me of the scene from the untouchables, "you brought a knife to gunfight". The west brought tomahawk missiles to an ideological battle.
