Perrennial Playoff Contender or Championship?

Put me in for playoffs. The West is going to have a down year this year. I think if we can sneak into the playoffs we have a chance to upset anyone. Gone are the days of LA killing us year in year out. I think if we add Granger to our core and take away Millsap, assuming we gel and are coached well, have a chance to do something exciting.

I'm all for getting lotto picks, but at some points you have to make a move forward or you just become the Timberwolves.

I agree with CT on this one. This is gonna be a weird season where anything can happen, I say give it 100% and see what happens. Obviously I want to see this team win a championship, but I'm in no rush. Win or lose I love watching competitive basketball, that's why I tune in. I'm gonna be a jazz fan for as long as they are around, eventually we'll get ours and until then i'm just enjoying the ride.

Playoffs don't do it for me unless we go deep. I'd rather do crazy/exciting things than just be a 'good' team forever. Roll the dice (with some smarts behind it) and go for the gold.

I think the difficulty is finding the right time to roll the dice. For a team like Boston who went all in to win a championship, it worked out. For countless other teams it fails miserably, and your left in a worse position than you started. It's also difficult for us in Utah because a big percentage of the league probably doesn't like the idea of living here. Even if we mortgage the future for a star, how well will he play if he doesn't like it here?

It should be obvious that every fan wants a championship. Nobody actually roots for 2nd place.

There certainly are some who like the idea of the team performing poorly in order to acquire higher picks. There are several reasons I disagree with this, that I've gone into many times. In short IMO developing the team as a whole is more important than looking forward to lottery picks, the team has plenty of young talent already, AND we have GS's pick anyways.

I'm also against taking advantage of the flexibility the club has right now as opposed to sustaining that until we know what we have in regards to the current group of players. If that means a losing record so be it, but I wouldn't want to gamble on an assumption right now. It's possible a trade @ midseason wouldn't be unreasonable or something minor like moving Bell but any big move that isn't landslide in favor of Utah would very likely be a mistake this year.

Finally, sorry, but I hate your list. If Luke Walton has two rings every player on our roster could get one too.

How about Adam Morrison?

Thankyou. Before I read your post I was beginning to lose my mind reading all these posts of people's outright plan to lose intentionally. Good hell!!! It takes a lot longer to learn how to win then lose. Look at the Wolves Clipers warriors. Only morons lose intentionally.

I don't ever recall anyone complaining about living in Utah while on the team. It's always the idiots on other teams that say bad things about Utah, and being ignorant.

it's always the other way around you always hear how players come to ut. and end up liking it here.

Yea, you are right!!! Look at the Bulls and Thunder too!! Oh, wait, is the point you are trying to make? Sorry.

It is not intentionally losing, it is getting as much time as possible to the young growing players on the Jazz roster. If we lose, we lose, but ultimately it is for the good of the team and the franchise and in turn good for Jazz fans.

Good hell your an idiot! The thunder and bulls were very lucky. They happened to get high picks in years there was a once in a lifetime can't miss prospect. For every Thunder team there are half a dozen Clippers teams.

Maybe you forget, but we made the finals two years in a row and ran into the greatest player to play the game in both years. There was no team that was going to beat Jordans Bulls, if we had played any of other team we would have at least one championship.

How many times were we in the lotto the ten years before! Hell! How many picks did we have inside the top 20!

That's what I thought. You have to ask yourself do you want the Clipers or the Jazz to root for?

Perhaps you would prefer to become Dumar's Pistons? That's what impatience can get you. There is a difference between losing on purpose and being patient. Utah set themselves up beautifully to grab Deron Williams at just the right time. Had Utah not had the picks we had at the time, we would have had Martell freaking Webster. Regardless of the hate Deron now gets on this board, this team would have gone nowhere without him.

I don't want Utah to lose on purpose, but the worst thing they could do right now is make shortsighted moves that only get us to the first round and no further. Unless KOC comes across a home run, I prefer to keep our players and see where we are by the trade deadline. If the team is doing well, then maybe we could make a move looking towards the playoffs. Otherwise, I'd like to see us maybe grab another pick with the idea of getting a chance at moving up for the right player.

By next season, Utah could be looking at being the next OKC, or they could try to pull off what Ainge did with the Celtics. Either way, this francise is looking to be in an unbelievable position, as long as they don't **** it up by trying to be an 8 seed loss to the Lakers/Mavs/Thunder.

I have faith in KOC and the Jazz to see the big picture.

Wow, you said what I was thinking in the best way possible. +1(0000) if I could do that.

What are the chances a Kevin Durant type of prospect. That is why OKC is as good as they are. There is never an excuse to lose.

We have loads of young talent as it is with GS's lotto pick coming to us. We should be teaching the young guys to win. What you don't seem to understand is once losing gets into your system it's hard to get that culture out of the system. Do any of you think these talented players will resign for a loser?

Is that a subtle jab at Jefferson?

Yea, drafting Durant did wonders for the city of Seattle. Super. No wonder everyone in SLC wants to follow that model.

I hate that team. Seattle had a ton of loyal fans, I loved talking trash with them. F OKC. I don't know anyone from that flatland craphole.

So you like OKC?

Utah doesn't have to draft the next KD. They could also use their picks to trade for a key piece/pieces. It's called building assets.

Tim Duncan says hi.

A losing mentality is a legitimate concern. So is getting stuck in mediocrity due to unwise moves made at the wrong time. I stick by my belief in what strategy Utah should use going forward, and I'm betting that's exactly what they'll do. There's a reason why Utah has never been a team like the Wolves, Clippers, etc., and it aint luck. It's called smart management.

You are on fire today.

Just pointing out that after drafting a top star player the worst possible thing happened to the fan base. Not that that means much of anything in regards to the Jazz but still. I hate that team.

Wasn't the year TD got drafted right after D-Rob was out with a serious injury which ruined their season? That's a management choice? The last team I remember seriously tanking on purpose was the Cavs for LeDB. That turned out great for them. Maybe things could have been better in Cleveland if they actually tried to build a winning foundation rather than draft Jesus.
