The Jazz are heading into a roster crunch of young players and some will get paid, so decisions will have to (eventually) be made.

I think the board would be sufficiently unanimous that we’d like to keep Lauri, Walker, Key, and Ace. We are on track to get a top-8 pick this year *knock on wood* and have a ******** of cap space which will add 2-3 people, which means we will realistically have 2 players of the remaining roster at most in the rotation moving forward. Who are the best candidates?

This is essentially a temperature check. Explain if you would, and if you change your vote down the line, let us know and why.

This poll is hard, luckily I think we can keep more, especially next year, but we will have to prioritize who we give minutes to next year.

As of this moment I think WCJ is the most likely to be a positive rotation player in the future. I think he's been pretty good already despite not being great off the dribble which I think will definitely come around.

I also went with Taylor even though right now he's probably our worst young player. I just think he needs to get some mobility back and continue to get game reps and watch film and he can be the type of defender this team really needs.

FWIW, these picks are by the slimmest of margins and I don't think anyone has separated themselves from the rest. If Cody's 3 starts falling in a believable way he would jump to the top for me. I also like the idea of Brice as a bench scorer, so he's not far behind.

Walt: I think he has "it", but he does need to start proving it more consistently. At some point I think he learns to be more a PG and he unlocks the rest of his game when he finds that comfort level.

Cody: I think he's got really good defensive potential. I'm betting on his continued physical growth. Jazz are so loaded offensively I think his defensive upside is more valuable to the Jazz than Flip or Brice's offensive potential.

I'm selling on Brice, hopefully high. He's a great scorer, but I worry he's a good stats bad team type player. Has really turned it on when he became higher in the pecking order, but I would try to sell high on that as Im not certain he can translate it into winning basketball as a negative defending role player.

I don't think I would be truly sad if we traded away anyone on this list, but I would also have a bad feeling like we might have made a mistake with all of them. None of them have shown they are surefire rotation pieces, but they've all shown at least a little potential.

I have high confidence Walt and Brice are both better 3 point shooters than their percentages this season, and if they shoot it as well as I expect they can I think both are NBA players. The other guys would be <50% of being NBA rotation guys.

That's a rather unsupported statement. All of these players are still on cheap contracts and can be had next year for little. Nurk alone is on the contract that is larger than what Collier, Brice, Flip, Clayton, and Cody make combined.

And all of them are young and developing players and change literally month-to-month. Cody now and Cody one month ago are like two different players. Brice is proving the volume-scoring ability right now.... It's way to early to make any decisions about our young guys.

Sure but the Jazz will bring in a rookie contract player, and likely sign at least two players in free agency. It's less about $ at this point and more about roster spots.

Also, out of this list, Hendricks should be quite worried. He can't guard anyone and his best talent is sitting in a corner to shoot 3s. He never slashes to the rim, there's 0 explosiveness, every player 1-5 has blown past him. I realize he's coming back from a terrible leg injury so I wouldn't really worry until maybe this time next year

You mean, in the summer? Well, by then the Jazz will have another 1/2 season of development and could decide based on that. Also, don't forget that the roster decision will depend on who the Jazz draft and who will they able to get in free agency.

For example, If the Jazz draft Boozer than they may think about trading either Hendricks or Flip. And if they draft a PG/combo guard then they may need to decide between Collier and Clayton. Finally, even if they decide to shop some of our young players for trades then our trading partners may value some of our players very differently based on their needs.

There are too many moving parts to even try making decisions now.
