Playoffs!!!!!

i was wrong, when this GS pick was out of reach few weeks ago i thought that we better lose those 8seed SAexit and take our pick like Jeremy LAMB etc.

but i really miss winning culture and this team can built something interesting on this advance.
KOC has to use his tools like salary cap space and TME this off season and if we get lucky and get GS pick this year we could start a new generation JAZZ TEAM with a lot of hope

as someone of us wrote somewhere " WE CAN BE ALL FRIENDS AGAIN"

in order to take the step, this team needs to learn how to play postseason basketball, and the only way that learn that is by being there.

the thought that a 13th/14th pick in the draft is going to represent "the next step" for the franchise is a ridiculously unfounded notion when you look at history. 82games did some analysis and found that 22.5% of players drafted 13-14 are stars, and 30% are deep bench players or total busts. you can have your earl clark, your kris humphries, your patrick patterson, your marcus morris. i'll take the postseason, baby.

Jefferson isn't a realistic possibility. Kanter ain't ready for prime time and Favors is still prone to foul trouble. Perhaps at the deadline, due to his large expiring contract. But I love that big lineup. I think it's more likely Millsap gets more time at SF next season. That big lineup can be unstoppable. And Paul can drop a few pounds in the offseason and improve his speed...if he knows he'll be playing half his minutes at SF on a regular basis.

I agree with your post re: the playoffs. This team showed a lot of heart against Phoenix, which was essentially playoff game #1. They'll lose their picks this year, but that might even be a good thing. KOC can now (and may be forced to) use the Memo TPE to improve the team. Then the Jazz will likely get GS' pcik next season, right on schedule as Harris and maybe Jefferson are gone.

Meh, I've never suggested losing on purpose. Corbin's questionable substitutions have cost us several games. All I'm saying, is it could have had a profound impact on the team's future, had we done that in a GS game or two, instead of Toronto at home. As for you being ashamed, judging from your posts, I doubt you're bright enough to have picked up on something like that anyway.

You are a very big person to say that if things don't turn out the way you claim they will you might be willing to admit you were wrong through your assumed internet persona. Some fans saying Jazz made a mistake by making the playoffs and having their first-round pick go to Minnesota:

I think the complaint was about losing leverage in making moves, and not necessarily about losing the player whom we would have drafted with the 13th or 14th pick.
I dont think even the people who are complaining about losing that pick are delusional enough to think that pick is going to definitely yield a game changer for us. They are talking about losing a trade asset. I am not convinced that the so called loss of flexibility completely offsets us making the playoffs this year.
Because if KOC really wants he can find other ways to get creative in trades or FA signings than depending on this single pick to dramatically alter the franchise.Plus the trade value of some of our vets just improved a bit after making the playoffs.

Like someone else said earlier in this thread there are just too many variables and uncertainities and possibilities that it is not possible to definitely conclude that this loss of pick will definitely affect this franchise in a big way.

Losing flexibility? Jazz can now trade a future first round pick. If they missed the playoffs, they could only trade this year's first round pick. No flexibility was lost.
 
I'm just thinking about the Spurs last year as the top seed, and the Memphis Grizzlies that knocked them out weren't as good as our Jazz team. If they can continue this caliber of team basketball they will suprise a lot of people.

I think a lot will depend on how smart we play. I think we match up very well with the Spurs, but they're such an efficient team that any type of mistake will kill you. These Jazz, at times, have a history of playing dumb. San Antonio will exploit that.

I don't think we win. But my hope is that we can steal a game in SA, come back to SLC 1-1 like the Grizz last year and then, well, who the hell knows. I believe we match up better with SA than we did in the '07 WCF, even though we were a better team than we are this go around. Will it be enough to win the series? Probably not. Will it be enough to make it a competitive series? I think so. If Utah can push this to seven, I'll be very content.

I'm sure interpreting the bolded part differently than you. I've been in conversation with several guys here who have insulted my intelligence and grasp on reality for claiming that making the playoffs is likely a net positive, and I have the neg rep to show for it. I was the one who made the point in your last paragraph so I'm happy to see that at least some people agree with me... and I don't mind being on the same side of this debate as KOC because he is deserving of Exec of the Year IMO.

This is not true. If you remember last year SA was stumbling into the playoffs. Hell, Memphis positioned themselves in the 8 spot so they could play SA. They smelled the blood in the water and played great basketball. This year SA is ready, with the sting of last year still fresh in their minds. I think the Jazz would have a chance if The Wasatch Front (the big line up) was more finely tuned over the coarse of the season. I think their defense will make an impact, it's offensively where they will struggle. Memphis was ready, unfortunately I don't think we're there yet. But ****, I'm an idiot. So who knows.
