Am I the only person that think that players like Mark Jackson would not do as well in today's NBA? He was a physical player, which you really can't do anymore. He wasn't very fast, most teams like to run a lot more. I dunno, just putting some thoughts out there.

I missed this post before... but my thought right now is ... Andre Miller.
I'm sure there are others, but he seems to do just fine today and his is physical and not fast.

But even Miller is a far better shooter than Marshall is. I mean, you literally don't have to guard Marshall at all.

My heart is set on no one in particular. I don't know enough yet. But I'm interested in getting a SF and/or stud.
Right now DX has the Jazz picking at 9, 14, and 44th.

SF: Miller (13th), K-G (3rd), Barnes (4th), maybe Perry Jones (7th).

potential PG:
Rivers (18th), Marshall (17th), Lillard (22nd), Machado (51st)

Speaking of SGs playing PG - is Beal just as much of a PG as Rivers? They're both NOT PGs at all, or is one MAYBE a PG?

The more I think about the dynamics of this team, the more I hope we get an SF and another big in the draft. Then, I hope we add an established (youngish) PG. We should be able to do this with Jefferson and/or Harris's expiring contracts or the TPE or a FA signing.

If Rivers is the BPA, then I can be convinced. But, I think the growing pains of him becoming an NBA PG would be maddeningly long. If we draft him and expect him to be a PG, then I still hope we pick up an established PG (like Augustin).

This should be the plan, period.

I picked other, I'd really like to see the Jazz get S. Curry from G.S. And I would really like to see the Jazz have 2 top ten picks next year too. What is everyones feelings about Dragic? He has shown that he is pretty good when giving the minutes. I think that could be a great pick up by the Jazz either at the trade deal line this year or next summer.

I would love to get Curry but it is not realistic without gutting our young core. I do like the idea of Dragic too. He could be a good addition to this team. Out of any of the realistic PG's that are already in the league, Augustine is the most intriguing. The idea of pursuing his is growing on me.

The only problem is, this particular thread is about potential PG's in the upcoming draft, not PG's that are already in the league.

Tonight I was watching to see how much Rivers moves around on the floor and if he has more PG skills than he is showing on this years Duke team. I saw more than I thought that I owuld. Every time that he gets the ball he is talking to his teammates telling them where to go and what to do.

Yes, I know that he has the entire Plumlee family to explain things to but it is more than that. (They all seem a little slow to me. Maybe the television takes away about 15+ IQ points.)

His low assist numbers are concerning but not overly concerning. He is not asked to be a PG for that team. He has the skills needed and I honestly believe that when he is asked to play PG in the NBA (any team that picks him up will experiment with it) he will perform better than anyone expects him to.

All of what I just mentioned along with his attitude towards the game make him a player that I know will help the Jazz. Whether he plays the point or not he will he the Jazz win more games. He will also bring that level of toughness that everyone on this board has been talking about that Earl and Raja have.

Thanks for the eyeball report. Here's the thing, if coaches asked Rivers to get 10 assists per game, he can, easily. Anyone that watches, objectively, can see that. So the question becomes, quite simply, is he willing. I think he is.

My point exactly. Rivers can be more than a capable PG. I would not say elite but I know that he could do what Kyle Lowry just did to the Jazz. He has good court vision and his quickness makes him very hard to defend. Rivers can also play off the ball when needed, ala DWill.

Honestly, I am having a hard time seeing why people are so enamored with Marshall. To me it is not very close.

In fairness, Marshall can be very good and will likely find his role in the NBA. Find the right team and be very good. But he's limited, greatly.

I'm with ya', though, why would we (hypothetically) draft a one-dimensional player that is slow, unathletic, and can't shoot, vs. one that is athletic, shoots the ball, and needs to learn to pass? Most coaches don't even get this, so I don't blame novice fans to get it.

Rivers is multidimensional. If you don't like him playing PG then move him to SG. If Marshall doesn't work out as a PG, then what?

And you do know that for a fact I take it? How do you know? Do you know Rivers personally? Are you involved with the Duke programme as well?

Or.. is it another one of your "opinion" you like to sneak in as fact? 10 assists per game? Can you ask him to run an offense properly? Or are his assists going to come mainly from drive & dish? Please enlighten us.

In the past you've always caveat your knowledge of NBA prospects with your involvement with the UK programme - and I respected that a lot. Lately though it seems you've just simply assume people should take your opinion as fact.

I don't hate you BTW - just my humble opinion.

By the way I like Burks a lot. I think that he has abilities as a SG that Jazz fans have always wanted in a star SG. In a blowout loss Kanter and Burks are the only players that keep me thinking happy thoughts. The idea of Burks playing PG is a scary one. He might be able to handle it for a 5 minute stretch but I don't feel good about anything longer than that.

Rivers on the other hand seems to have the ability to play PG in the NBA. I would take Rivers as a PG over Burks as a PG.

No one's opinion should be taken as fact, especially mine. I don't always take the time to carefully craft my posts with the obligatory, 'imo.' I'll PM you about my 'connections.' Hopefully it will answer enough to quench most of the back-and-forth.

Ooh I wanna know your connections! How dare you not tell me these things....*******.

Nick, are you from the UK? Just wondering because it seems like you spell quite a few words like they do.

One of the things I like about Austin Rivers is he came into the Duke program with literally everybody calling him a head case and a terrible teammate. From that time to now, he has become a leader on that team. Like orange said, he tells people where to go (Plumlees's are dumb, it's not just you seeing things) and just sees things that other people don't. Most of the time, he can do whatever he wants to on the court. I guess when I look at our team, I see how much of a difference it makes when Harris is able to drive into the lane and when he isn't. When he's able to get penetration it opens things up for everybody, like when we played the Wizards (and yes, I know they suck) but when he's not able to, our offense resorts to passing it lamely around the perimeter before passing it into the post. Marshall isn't going to be able to penetrate the lane, Rivers is. Rivers has far more upside, offensively and defensively. Rivers is already the better player. I just fail to see the argument here.

Much appreciated. Will enjoy your insights a bit more in the future.. thanks..

After seeing the Jazz get torched almost every game this month by other PG's, it is harder for me to choose Marshall.

Has anyone seen a game where it was Marshall versus a very athletic PG? How'd he do?
