What I see as tragic accidents or inept officers with poor training/judgement, you see as veiled racism. Are there undoubtedly bad cops who target black people, Hispanic people, Jews, etc.? Of course there are, but I believe there are 999 good guys for every rotten *** wipe.
Targeting requires an intention to target, which I am not claiming exists (as you already know). Talking about people who intend to discriminate is a distraction from the real issue, one that allows people generally, and you specifically, to keep a distance between yourself and what you see as the supposed real racists.
I don't see 911 being called on white people who are carrying around toy guns inside of Wal-Mart. When police are called out on white people carrying guns (such as when they are pointing real guns at passing cars on the highway), I see police taking a moment of time to assess the threat before they open fire. Black people don't get that moment, all too often, because a black man is more inherently threatening in our culture.
Ok. We disagree, no sense in continuing to argue.
Arguing works better with evidence, certainly.
Indeed, that is odd. Of course, I didn't say that, or even hint that death is an appropriate penalty. Thank you for putting words in my mouth ala HighlandHomie though, it really makes me want to see your point of view.
When you say Brown's actions made him responsible for his own death, when you put the onus on Brown to avoid being shot as opposed to an onus on Wilson to not shoot, you are indeed implying what happened was fair and appropriate.
Do you disagree with the statement that people who commit crimes have a better chance of being shot by police than those who don't?
I would agree that is true for you and me to a very significant degree. It's a lot less true for black men.
