Do you know what it means if something "jumps the shark?"

Like, if I said..."Facebook jumped the shark." Would you know what I was saying?

I ask because I said this phrase (not about facebook) a while back and my friends thought I had gone full artard. I told them that they were, in fact, the dummies and that 90% of people would know what that means. I then proceeded to ask about 20 people of various age groups and no one had any idea what I was talking about. Mind bottling.

So without googling, do you know what "jumped the shark means?"

I do.

Henry Winkler also jumps over a shark in Arrested Development. :d

Lol, googled "jumping the shark" and the Wiki page says that the phrase originated from that particular Happy Days episode because everything for Happy Days started going downhill after Fonzi jumped the shark.

There you go, that's interesting conversation.

Aw, did you just ruin his poll?

I know what it means and have used it in a sentence and have gotten funny looks for saying it.

I'm still stuck on 'mind bottling.'

I like that one better. I suspect if the OP's mind were bottled, as he indicated, then that would make him a pessimist .. Cuz no way that bottle would be half-full.

I know what it means and think I do from reading Bill Simmons for about a decade now.
