Popovich quote on Trey Burke

I remember back during the '04-'05 season Pop said we were a good PG away from contending again and he was right on the money there. I know he's not making any predictions here, but it sounds like he's implying Burke should be solid for quite a while.

Well said. I see Hayward as a Nicholas Batum type player. Skilled in many areas and a willing but high contributing role player (Batum makes around $13 million a year or thereabouts I think). Much of the criticism here about Hayward is, I think, misplaced in that the criticism seems to be in the context of him playing a 'star' role. This is not his role, nor do I think the FO sees this as his role. As a high value role player, Hayward will, I think, excel when he's able to settle into this role.

I am hoping that you are not suggesting that Hayward (or Batum) are worth $13 million. If Hayward wants or gets $13 million then I wish him well.

Do you want Hayward at 12 per as a #3 option? Or #4, depending on how Favors develops?

At 12? 12 million? No I do not. I think hayward would even excell as a #2. I say 10 million. his numbers right now are him in a role he is not suited for. He will excell int he proper role. Just look at his assist and rebound numbers. Also his shooting %s will go up once he is no longer the focus of the D.

You said Hayward is untouchable. Someone will offer him 12 this summer. Even right now, people are talking about how good Burke is, but how Hayward is the best player. On this basketball team, under a new coach, the draft pick is probably the #1 option. #2 will be Burke. #3 very well could be Favors, seeing how well he runs that P&R. That drops Hayward down to #4. That is a lot of money for your fourth option on your team.

I'm just saying, Hayward is not untouchable.
