Popovich quote on Trey Burke

Sorry if this was already posted, I couldn't find it.

I read Popovich's quote on yesterday's NBA rookie ladder:https://www.nba.com/rookie-ladder/

"He's got a great demeanor. He doesn't get excited about a good play or get down because there was a mistake. He plays,"

Thats a great compliment coming from the best coach in the game. Kudos to Trey

In Newfeed there is an article about the NBA taking notice of Burke that includes what Pop has to say on Burke. It also includes Shaw (Nuggets Coach) and Lebron James quotes on Burke. It was written before last nights game.

Burke is the only untouchable on this team.

I would very much add Favors to that list right now. He has really started coming into his own. Like how he altered the last shot by Nelson last night. Favors made him miss that shot with his D but it doesn't show up on any box score.

If Burks continues to improve I would add him. Hayward goes on that list, imo, if we land our superstar in this draft. Hayward will excell in a Robin type role. He was made for it.

Well said. I see Hayward as a Nicholas Batum type player. Skilled in many areas and a willing but high contributing role player (Batum makes around $13 million a year or thereabouts I think). Much of the criticism here about Hayward is, I think, misplaced in that the criticism seems to be in the context of him playing a 'star' role. This is not his role, nor do I think the FO sees this as his role. As a high value role player, Hayward will, I think, excel when he's able to settle into this role.

Favors isn't putting up a high enough ORTG - DRTG differential to be put into that "untouchable" category. He's improved incrementally this year but I want to see a bit more on offense and a lot more focus on defense. He needs to get back to where he was last season there.

On offense, he needs to get up to about .570-.580 ts% and probably bump the USG% up to 22-23%. If he does that then he's in the reserve all star discussion and well worth his contract.

I really think the continued growth of Burke will completely open up Favors's offensive game. Really excited to see how the two grow together. Remember what Burke did to McGary?

This is why Favors isn't untouchable. Hayward and Burks aren't untouchable for a couple of reasons. 1 - Hayward is probably going to be overpaid this summer. 2 - Hayward and Burks play the same position, and yes, this is going back on my earlier position, but both look to capable of starting. 3 - Neither one did much to impress me when the Jazz were going 1-14 and consistently blown out by 20+ points. It was pathetic. They are both good players, but neither one is a #1 or #2 on a team.

Do you want Hayward at 12 per as a #3 option? Or #4, depending on how Favors develops?

I think the starting role has caused Favors to pull back a little on defense so that he doesn't end up in foul trouble every night. As time goes on he'll find way to play his D game without fouling as much and as a boost the refs will start giving him vet starter benefit of the doubt eventually.

I remember back during the '04-'05 season Pop said we were a good PG away from contending again and he was right on the money there. I know he's not making any predictions here, but it sounds like he's implying Burke should be solid for quite a while.

I am hoping that you are not suggesting that Hayward (or Batum) are worth $13 million. If Hayward wants or gets $13 million then I wish him well.

At 12? 12 million? No I do not. I think hayward would even excell as a #2. I say 10 million. his numbers right now are him in a role he is not suited for. He will excell int he proper role. Just look at his assist and rebound numbers. Also his shooting %s will go up once he is no longer the focus of the D.

You said Hayward is untouchable. Someone will offer him 12 this summer. Even right now, people are talking about how good Burke is, but how Hayward is the best player. On this basketball team, under a new coach, the draft pick is probably the #1 option. #2 will be Burke. #3 very well could be Favors, seeing how well he runs that P&R. That drops Hayward down to #4. That is a lot of money for your fourth option on your team.

I'm just saying, Hayward is not untouchable.
