What's new

Portland Trailblazers @ OUR Utah Jazz TODAY at 1900.

The home crowd was lame last night. No energy.

The team was lame last night. No energy.

Favors took two days off practice for "flu like symptoms" and showed up for the game. I find that pretty troubling. We've all kind of assumed this team had good chemistry, but they looked like they were all playing choose your own adventure last night.

Pretty lame home opener.

I blame this horrible game thread.

I know he is a good defender and stuff, but I don't believe he is that good. He nearly cancels himself out with how bad he is offensively. If we were, as a group, a better offensive team we would probably afford to play him more, but we can't.

Also, he would foul out within 12 minutes guarding Lillard. He hand checks way too much on the perimeter to get away with guarding a PG of his caliber.

We really should have put Hayward on Lillard. I think he got switched on him once and really had a nice contest on Lillard's 3pt shot. The problem is that he switched off Harkless who posted up Burke..... I miss Dante. The advantages you get with a 6'6 defensive PG on switches can't be understated.

If we aren't using Millsap in these situations then we need to move on. This is why he's here. I wonder if he's nursing an injury.

I disagree with you RE: Hayward. He can't guard Lillard.

But Rodney Hood can? Hayward is much better defender than Hood on any type of player.

So has anybody looked at the shot chart?

The Jazz only allowed 5 corner threes, forced a ton of shots from long midrange or floater location and got killed because the Blazers shot unsustainable percentages on those.

73 percent on long mid range jumpers. Wow.

Going into the game I had a complete lack of confidence in us. This is exactly the type of team that can give our defense fits. Hit a lot of contested shots. We should have been able to do more offensively though. They hit a lot of shots off the dribble and contested. If they shoot like that every night they will be in the playoffs.

Hayward is a better defender, but laterally Hood is more equipped to guard a guy like Lillard. Neither guy is particularly long.

One thing that is hard to understand unless you have played is that those guys who are smaller than you but are quick and strong can be tougher to guard because you can't get into their body without getting really low. Millsap should have been used and he did come in for a little bit and I thought he did okay.

Rudy played like hot garbage. Derrick looked hung over. If our AMAZING!!! front court plays like **** we're going to lose more often that not. Add poor shooting all around, except for Trey!!!!, and you get a loss like this.

I dont believe for a second that Hood is better at guarding PGs. I think they just use him because they dont want Haywrd in foul trouble.

I had my response prepared for you, but then I saw that MDAV beat me to it. We're playing Portland; they're a two-man wrecking crew that does all their **** on the perimeter. It seems like Q and co. did very little creative scheming to stop that type of attack. We got the peanut butter and jelly approach.

I agree here as well as on the other end. If they play Lillard and McCollum together one of them has to guard Hayward or Hood... both guys have significant size advantages... both guys are good passers... both guys are good in the post. We need to milk that **** on the other end regardless of what type of sets we normally run. Those guys will get worn out wrestling in the post and likely get in foul trouble... and we will score more. We needed to make them bend to our advantages.

I still love Quin, but he needs to do better. He should order some more pizzas or something.

Hayward isn't particularly quick laterally. He has the girth to be a better overall defender, but Hood is quicker laterally imo.

TBH those guys were on fire. Some shots were open, but they hit a ton of contested shots off the dribble. It's a make or miss league. I'm not sure we have the answer for when they are shooting like that.

The reason the bigs look bad was because of the dribble penetration and they had to come help out and looked like the village idiots and it really wasn't their fault.
