PoS fan who harassed Westbrook

Shouldn’t the first step be determining what really happened? If this fan or fans broke the code of conduct, then appropriate steps can be taken. If Westbrook broke code of conduct, then fines or suspension may be in order.

But to paint an entire fan base with a racism claim doesn't fly. There are jerks, bigots and racists in every state. I’ve lived in Oklahoma. Trust me, they have their share, too.

Only issue is multiple folks are corroborating Westbrook's story and the fan's twitter timeline isn't exactly speaking volumes about him. Long story short, this guy is smelling like a turd.

I actually agree that the knees remarks were more likely homophobic than explicitly racist. But here's the thing. As a white person, I don't get to decide what counts as racist against black people and what doesn't. To deny that the remark could be understood in a racist way is to be ignorant of the perceptions and experiences of many black people in America. A white man berating a black man with commands about kneeling down (and using language like "acting a fool") can easily be understood in racial terms to anyone who is familiar with the history of slavery and race relations in the United States. And you don't get to decide what counts as racist against black people and what doesn't.

So a white man can't say anything to a black man because it might be construed as racist? Is that what your are saying? RW overreacted, plain and simple. We'll see if there is any evidence the fan said what RW thinks he said, but even if he did, I doubt it had racial undertones. Should he be judged soley on RW interpretation of what was said?

I agree with all of this. There are times when the race card is played inappropriately but those are likely pretty extreme outliers. I can see how it is viewed as racist and when you say dumb things the interpreter gets to decide if and how it is offensive.

I'm not a history expert by any means, but I swear I've heard it said in movies before to slaves. This guy doesn't look like a genius himself, you're right, it's probably a homophobic slur though.

I say we issue an apology and ban this guy until he can prove he is innocent.

In an ugly situation we should be the bigger person... even if Russ isn’t sorry.

I don’t care that mich about the FA aspect... I don’t want the issue to bother the guys we have... don’t want them to have to justify liking and staying here to their peers.

I will say this. Maybe I was wrong to say that the statement is in no way racist, but I do believe that it is an EXTREME stretch to believe that if such a comment was even made, that it was done with racial undertones

Why didn’t security shut this guy up earlier?

I was at the Kong’s preseason game and a dude was heckling Shumpert (yup his own player) he said something ugly and everyone gave him a funny look and security said something to him... he didn’t show back up at half time.

The fact that Dm said he has heard it a couple times validates that some of the stereotype is likely true. Fans should police this stuff a bit better... see something say something mmmmkay.

I take it as what a cop says to someone when they’re arrested. Maybe Westbrook took it as a white guy telling him to get on his knees as though he were being arrested. Just guessing.
