I think:
A. A lot of Utahns live with blinders on. For example, I recently attended a school board meeting in a major school district in the salt lake valley. The start of the meeting began with one of the principals of the high schools giving a vocal Mormon prayer. This is... odd. To say the least. And doesn’t create an environment of inclusivity. But few present showed any discomfort. If was as if this was “business as usual.”
B. Had anyone brought this issue up, many present would’ve become defensive. This typically happens in this state when anyone dares bring up issues of religion or race. As we’re seeing on this board and listening to on the radio, some take these criticisms of our state way too personally. I remember posting about racism at the arena a few weeks ago and was blasted on this board. Oops.
Guess it’s time we’re gonna finally address it, right? Now that the franchise just saw one of its ugliest incidents in history last night? Not good. Let’s try and be a little bit more progressive, shall we? Are the majority of fans racist? Probably not explicitly. Are there some who are? Yes. Does it need to be addressed? Yes. Clearly. We’re earning a bad reputation around the league and destroying the fun atmosphere of the arena.
