I don't have a clue.
I haven't spoken to Kanter directly but one time since he was drafted, but spoke to him and hung out dozens of time while he was at UK. I told lots of people the guy has 3pt range and a sweet stroke.. dude can flat play.
Here's the problem, as stated all the way back to pre-draft.. he needs a coach that will spend considerable time with him, make him feel needed and important, and lots of individual instruction. I saw him thrive when Cal would work with him one on one and he would dominate practices.. just as he handled Cousins and got under his skin, big time.
Most NBA coaches just do not expect to have to hand hold guys, stroke their egos, and cater to their high maintenance issues.. nor should they have to, it's a profession. But it is what it is. Kanter gives you what you give him. He will kick some *** if Q decides he wants to put in the time a la DMC.. and won't if he won't.
He's a great baller, an insanely hilarious dude, and he loves contact and the physicality of the game.. but he's like a kid in that he needs lots of pats on the back and good pep talks. So for me, the question comes down to whether Q sees he's worth all that extra effort.
Before he was drafted I said within 3 - 5 years he's a 15/12 type of guy, iirc.. I still think that who/what he is.
So, having said all that, I think Q sees a big with tremendous upside that can be maintained on a reasonable contract.. he does, in fact, start to spend some quality time with Enes, makes an evaluation, requests he's extended/kept early while value is low, then takes him under his wing and Enes becomes a solid 15-18 ppg and 10-12 rpg guy.
Btw, I'm not normally for catering to needy players, but Enes is a really good kid and could be a very valuable contract. An exception to the rule, if you will.
I'm convinced. As the driver of the Kwame Kanter bus, I will head straight to the local diocese for confession and penance in two days time, unless the cat licks are open on Sabado. Confession Audio forthcoming.
