Potential Trade Targets

I wish I knew what this fanbase wants.

I mean people seem to be ecstatic at the possibility of finally getting rid of Kelly Olynyk and replacing him with a G-League player who may not be able to stay on the floor in actual NBA games.

Do we want to say goodbye to any playoff aspirations, blow this thing up and watch bad basketball the rest of the way... and then immediately pivot to signing a 27 year old Lauri Markkanen to a long term max deal, which is a win-in-the-near-future move if there ever was one?

What do we want?

Championship.

What is the ONLY way to achieve that in any sport? Maximize your ceiling, and hope that pieces fall into place.

How do you do that in the NBA? Either invest playing time and money on the highest ceiling guys you have, or go out there and get better guys.

Which route are we taking then?

Dude, you are making it sound like we are blowing this team up if we trade Kelly Olynyk. He seems to be a great dude and has played well for us, but come on.

I dont know. All I know is we arent really fully committed to either yet.

We havent traded out all vets who dont have the ceiling required, but we havent pushed any chips in either. I would guess we are looking to do the latter but we wont build on the fringes too much before we get the other centerpiece we need.

Right now there are Top 10 guys in teams who have hard time making big upgrades and who might get very disappointing results this year, to follow up on their previous disappointments.. Bucks, Sixers and Mavericks are all in that boat, as are the Suns and Clippers as well tbf. Cavs are also in a spot where 1st round exit would probably trigger them to sell DM.

It's up to Ainge, rather than the fanbase. Ainge wants to circulate and accrue more assets for players he's not interested in long-term. We're really just acquiring and appreciating assets until we find some that we believe in. So far, I think they believe in Lauri and Keyonte. Whether the team wins 35 games or 40 games this year doesn't matter in the bigger picture.
