One move that would be both hilarious and really exciting, would be for us to move all the Cavs-picks we got for Donovan Mitchell to the Cavs to get him back. 3 unprotected firsts, the swap rights cancelled + Sexton and Clarkson going back to the Cavs should match any offer from another team. The Cavs get a solid contributor back in Sexton, trade fodder in Clarkson and most importantly, complete control of their own drafts.

The Jazz would have the ability to renegotiate and extend Mitchell this off season, adding another $7 million to his salary for the 24/25-season. We can do the same with Lauri and go into next season with a core of Markkanen, Mitchell, George and Hendricks. We would still have the Minnesota picks and the 2027 Laker-pick to strengthen the squad, in addition to whatever picks we get this year.

Neither do I, but who knows? $7 million dollars has been known to change a mind or two. If he adds two years so that he would be on a three year deal with a player option for the fourth, he could be a free agent again when he hits 10 years of service and is eligble for 35% of the cap.

I agree with you. When he leave, he was quite happy. He will make big money and many teams will be interested to get him. And much better team for win, much better place to leave.
I'm not a Don fan but i look at several Cavs games this year and have to admit , he is a much better player than he was with us. The main difference beeing the effort in put in defense. Cavs got one of the best defense in NBA and he is part of it.

After Cavs lose in the 2nd round of the playoffs I think they need to do something about all the redundancy on their roster, assuming Don extends and of course that is still a big question. Their backcourt is probably too small but the much bigger issue is you cannot start 2 non-offensive centers. My bet is it wouldn't be shocking if they deal Mobley for a more established starter at a position of need. Mobley will also be due for an extension off his rookie contract.

Would you guys trade Lauri for Mobley? Mobley's development got stunted when they added Don. Not to mention Allen is the better fit with Don at this point. Mobley was considered untouchable when Ainge made the Don deal. He is already a first team all defensive type player but is very raw offensively. I do believe he has the skill set to one day be a hub offensively if developed properly. The Cavs are not in a great position to be developing him when Don is ready to win now and they have glaring holes at the forward position. Trading Lauri back to them could also effect our future draft picks but that didn't stop Ainge from making a big deal with Minnesota last year. For the Jazz, dealing Lauri for the younger Mobley could take some pressure off in terms of them potentially "tanking" for the '25 draft. Just a thought..

Why wouldn't he extend if he wants to be there? He will have 7 years of service this summer and be eligble for 30% of the cap. An extension can go up to 140% of his previous salary, which is more than enough to reach his new max.

He was never going to extend last summer as he only could get 25% of the cap. This off season he is eligble for 30% of the cap. Cleveland can also give him 8% raises. If he leaves next summer, he can get 30% of the cap in free agency, but only 5% raises.

He would have had to take 3 years too. He can sign a 4 year extension at 200M. It will be a pivot point. If he doesn’t take it you move him. I wonder if his little injuries gives him enough pause to just do a 3+1 extension. NY looks to be out of the Din biz. Miami doesn’t have the trade assets… is he angling to get to Brooklyn with their nonsense. Does LA tamper hard enough that their meager package works?
